Battery Operated CPAP for Travel

Hello all. I am one week new to this hosehead thing and I am looking for a second APAP. I travel and camp frequently and having the ability to run on rechargeable battery would come in handy on occasion. I am looking at the Z1 and the Transcend Auto Mini... suggestions? Any others I should be looking at with an integrate battery?

use the forum search, or google (put site:cpaptalk.com at the front of your query) and look for 'camping batteries'.

most all machines can be run off batteries, some require a power converter, some don't.

capn' loki has a lot of great posts on battery power for cpaps.

I don't know of any that have an integrated battery. I looked at the Z1 and the battery was an additional pack and appeared to be costly. What I use is my Respironics 760 without the humidifier and a Poweradd Pilot Pro 32000mAh. It is convenient because it has a plug that plugs directly into the machine. I can run for 2 nights but I usually recharge after each night. The problem with the Poweradd is that several have received batteries that do not power their machines, so it is the luck of the draw. If you use Amazon they allow you to return if it doesn't work.
Respironic's machines work on 12 volt so are a little less costly to run on battery power. Because I am limited on space I chose this battery but many people use a battery like the ones used to power the mobile power chairs and those would last longer but weigh more.

Personally, I don't like the performance of the "travel CPAPs". I prefer taking my regular machine and matching up the battery requirement.

When I learned a cpap was in my future I became infatuated with the concept of a travel cpap. However, it soon became apparent that that the compromises involved may be too great, so I held back. I found the my Respironics 560, without the humidifier, only weighs about a pound and a half more than the transcend. Since it runs directly from DC, when I use it on my boat the difference is only a few ounces. I ended up getting a duplicate 560 so I could leave it on the boat in the summer, and have it as a travel machine the rest of the year. Its nice that its an exact duplicate of "home" machine. If you do use the humidifier, when travelling to a dry climate or air conditioned hotels, you'll find the 560 humidifier about a third the weight of the transcend, and the volume of the combined units are almost the same.

The net result is that the transcend is only an advantage for those backpacking a distance (as opposed to boating or "car-camping') or wanting an absolute minimum for in-plane use during flights. I've flown a number of times with the cpap and never had to check any anything, and usually don't use an extra "medical equipment" bag. I'm packing now for a few weeks in Europe and hope to fit the cpap with humidifier in my carry-on.

If your need is for battery power while car-camping or boating, there are many options at different weights and price points. Just fill us in on your needs.

I have and use a Z1, not just for camping but as my every day machine. I camp one or two weekends per month. I have two of the Z1 batteries, which I got on sale, each lasts one night. I am looking into a 12V deep cycle agm battery for six nights at summer camp. I like the Z1.

I purchased the Intellipap Autoadjust.
It runs on either house current or 12 volt DC. WITHOUT A WALL WART.
Power packs are available from various places at competitive prices.
This machine is a "big bang" for the buck for travel, power outages, or even a primary machine.
Not the smallest machine, but as small as you can go without significant therapy or noise trade-offs.
