What mask for mouth breather

Post by bwexler » Tue Feb 16, 2016 4:04 pm

My daughter has been avoiding using the PRS1 I gave her last thanksgiving.

She says she only breathes through her mouth when she sleeps.

What mask would you recommend that might work for a claustrophobic person who never procrastinates, because she never gets around to it.

My 2 thoughts would be the F10 with a PadaCheek liner for comfort or the Amara View. I don't have first hand knowledge of either but my husband uses the F10. Both are without a forehead bar and have less on the face.
I'm sure others will have other suggestions.

She needs to try on FF masks and do it lying down as your face changes a lot then... She could also peruse Cpap.com's FFM's and/or the Hybrid & Liberty masks - all are made for mouth breathers. She won't lose therapy air even if her mouth's open with a FFM. But it's very hard to recommend which to try as everyone's different, but Cpap.com has a 30 day trial for most masks, some requiring a small fee to try them.

If nothing else can be made to get past the claustrophobia issue (and for me nothing did), the Oracle 2 mask is a godsend.
Take a close look at my post (link below) on the Oracle 2 and see if makes sense in your circumstances.

If it does and/or you have any questions, please ask and I'll try to help.

I was a mouth breather before CPAP. I use the DreamWear nasal mask and my mind quickly adapted to keeping my mouth shut throughout the night because I can consistently breathe through my nose now.

I didn't know this approach existed. I know the goal is to avoid mouth breathing. I use pillows since they seal so well at high pressure but I am always fighting mouth breathing. I use the Ultimate Chin Strap to limit mouth leaking.

I need to try Oracle 2.
Thanks

The Oracle looks very interesting.
I have heard of it but never took the time to look at it.

My best mask for mouth breathing is the Hybrid FFM. Kit comes w/three sizes cushions & nasal pillows. Has a very small mouth seal area. Also, has a chin flap so no chin strap is required. Link in my equip list below.
Cheers,
