How do you get usage DATA off a REMstar Plus Domestic Model

Post by DriverGlenn » Mon Feb 15, 2016 1:27 am

I’m a Commercial Truck Driver.

At my recent DOT physical my doctor said I needed to have usage data from my CPAP. I only need hours used.

I have been using a REMstar Plus for years but now I need to show proof that I’m using it.

I have the REMstar Plus Domestic Model No. 1005960

It has an mini din-8 connector in the back of the unit.

I purchased a cable and hooked it up to my computer but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

I was expecting it to show up under my Computer like a USB drive or something but no luck.

Does anyone know how to get usage data off this unit ?

I would love to get a new unit but for now this is what I have.

Thanks: Glenn

Unfortunately, the Plus model does not give usage data... what are the chances of your getting another machine?

You might try a PM to a member called Wulfman.
Edit:The presence of a DIN connector may imply that it is the manner of uploading firmware to the machine.
If that is so, perhaps there is some maintenance software that can use that port to access the usage data.

Your unit doesn't have a data card so the only way I know of is to take a pix of the display showing usage.
That might not be acceptable.

*every* cpap gives usage data.

the plus model gives no *efficacy* (how effective the machine is) data.

This machine may have a slot for a Smartcard. Look in the back of the machine for a slot that would fit a credit card sized thing like this:

Image

If there is a card n the slot it will contain up to 1-year of compliance usage data. If there is no card, they can be purchased for $10-19 on the internet Search Encore Smart Card. This kind of card can only be read by using a Mako Infineer DT3500 card reader ($60) and Encore Software. The software is free here if you join the Apneaboard forum http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread ... nly-thread

Take a look and let us know if you see a card. I understand your need to get data for your medical cert, but update your machine ASAP. You can find a new Philips Respironics 60 Series Auto with humidifier on Amazon for $400, and it uses a simple SD card for data. Much much better machine that will actually let you know how effective your treatment is, and automatically set pressure. Your machine is about 15 years old...you're due.

However all the card will show I'd compliance data, not useful for treatment, but it what they want probably. Your only other option is drain water from the heated humidifier, and take the XPAP into the doctor. He can read the hours from the screen.

If he wants he could give you a more modern better machine that collects full data. Make sure it runs of 12 volts as well as a/c, to be more friendly to your truck power. Jim

That fossil could quit working any time.
We strongly urge you to get a full data machine.
Avoid the names "Plus" and "Escape"; and the Airsense 10 "CPAP"

True.

DriverGlenn, You may want to see if you can get into the menu and read it before you take it to the doc. The doc and his assistants may not know how to access the menu.

Hi Glenn.

Your machine should be the 3-button Plus model without C-Flex. But, it does collect hours used......without a data card.

I sent you a PM (Private Message) regarding your machine and getting the "usage data" from it. I just wanted to take this opportunity to throw a few jabs back at some of the "know-it-alls" (actually "know-nothings") on the forum who are only familiar with the "NEW" technology and machines and don't appreciate the simplicity and durability of the older ones.
So, I'm quoting and paraphrasing/re-phrasing one of them from a fairly recent post that was made about me and was a TOTAL LIE.
nitwit know-nothing wrote:first, you have to take anything at all that the "know-nothings" ever said about an older, straight pressure cpap and toss it out the window, they've never *seen* an older machine, much less used one, and the older ones are much better and longer lasting than the the newer ones they own. so much for mystical chases.
I did PM you with the instructions on getting into the clinical menu on your machine, but you really don't need to.
When you plug in the power cord, there should be three sets of numbers that appear in the LCD.
First should be the firmware number.......something like "N.N" (the N's should be numbers like 2.5 or something)
Next should be the "Blower Hours" (write them down). They can't be reset.
Next should be the "User Hours". They should be present on the screen before the ON button is pressed. These can be reset but you don't want to do that.
There is one set of numbers "Nights with usage > 4 hrs" which can be accessed through the clinical setup menu. Don't reset them, either.

But, as I also stated in the PM, you may need to enlist the help of a local DME, if the doctor isn't familiar with how to do this or can't verify your past machine usage.......to actually "certify" that the machine hours are accurate......depending on when/where you got this machine. If you got the machine "new" and have been the only owner/user, then the blower and user hours should be fairly close and the nights > 4 hours should be fairly accurate for their purposes, too.

Anyway, check your PM and good luck with your DOT requirements.

Like many fossils, they have good properties, time proven, hard to beat, good looking and set in their ways. Wait, is that about Fossils or Me? Jim

Funny the OP only asked how to get used hours out of the machine he already has to get to the dot people.

He most likey will have a hard time unless he has or gets a smartcard and access to a card reader.

New machine, New software is not what he is looking for.

I wish him good luck.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

I will check with my Doctors and see if viewing the CPAP in person will be OK.

Since my first sleep study was in 2005 my doctor thinks I should have another sleep study. I have had 2 surgeries to improve my breathing but im sure I still have sleep apnea.

I will report back when I find out more info.

Thanks: Glenn

depending on how much a study will cost you, it might be much more cost effective to pick up a good used machine from one of the folks here, and use that instead.

we've got some other drivers that are doing that.

Den properly corrected my information...this machine has no smartcard, so the display screen is all there is. DriverGlenn, your job relies on keeping your medical cert. An updated machine sounds like a good investment.
