For non-smokers, radon is said to be the next prevalent factor in lung cancer.
In Lincoln, the percentage of homes found to have high levels of radon is frightening.
Is radon really as bad as they claim? The money makes me wonder.

I wonder if it's one company doing all the testing, and who's funding them?
Our basemt got tested a zillion yrs ago and was negative...

Radon has been on the radar since the mid eighties. Yes, it's as bad as they claim.chunkyfrog wrote:For non-smokers, radon is said to be the next prevalent factor in lung cancer.

i have been around people vaping, it's a LOT different than second hand smoke. I think this is all a matter of harm reduction, which I am very pro.
Whether it's needle exchange or whatever the addiction is.

"I am about to attempt to quit the vaping".
Maybe you'd have better luck if you told yourself you are going to quit...

Just think of the market for eCigs if they could liquefy pot! Only joking.
I smoked for more than 50yrs and was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011. I still use an eCig with 6mg nicotine level today and it is a mental thing. Pulmonologist says that is part of reason for my throat irritation (not just the copd or reflux) and to quit totally - easier said than done.

I understand they can vape a pot extract.
In the meantime, it's eye drops for the glaucoma.

I'm also supposed to use a nebulizer with 7% saline - wonder if I could put that in the humidifier?

Re: Views on vaping and electronic cigarettes
I actually do occasionally vape pot. Less odor and easier on my lungs.
I'm all for ecigs- even if they don't have plans on quitting nicotine. I think it's pretty cool to determine the strength and concentration for those who are trying to cut down.
The other day I was taken aback seeing a guy puffing on his vape while walking to the buffet line.
On a side note: I'm sad to see smokers rights slowly being taken away. I completely agree that there should be designated smoking areas so the non-smokers can feel safe, but more and more smoking areas are being reduced or removed entirely. A person has the right to smoke should they want to. At my husbands work, they won't hire you if you smoke. There are apartment complex's that now don't allow smoking at all. When that policy was changed, the smoking residents who already were living there were given a choice- quit or find another place to live. I was upset to hear that Major League Baseball players couldnt use chewing tobacco in stadiums anymore. While spitting is gross, it's still done, but tons messier these days with sunflower seed shells everywhere.
I was a 2 pk a day smoker for over a decade and quit when I was pregnant with my firstborn who's now 18. Never picked the habit back up again. But I can if I so choose.
Off my soapbox now..

Re: Views on vaping and electronic cigarettes
I have had to witness COPD in several relatives. It is heartbreaking watching this debilitating disease break down once strong people. Thus far, there is no evidence of substantial harm from using e-cigarettes. Here is just one government endorsed review

If you can quit smoking then, by all means, quit, but, if smoking e-cigarettes is the only way somebody can avoid smoking real cigarettes, then I say go for it. Don't get to the point where your family has to watch you struggling to breath each and every day.

While on the surface this seems like a great way to go, Right, and that is where you would be wrong... The second they "regulate" something it becomes taxable, that is how they start making money on it again.. the money then transfers from taxes on cigarettes to taxes on electronic vaporizers... That is why you will not see any ads on these saying they will help to stop smoking... Look at patches, lozenges, and gum for "stop smoking" items, they are all taxed and grossly overpriced as a stop smoking aid..WindCpap wrote:I have had to witness COPD in several relatives. I do agree on the report though, it is so much more safer than smoking tobacco... Its like the difference of driving a NASCAR truck through a mine field for 5 miles doing 150 MPH and driving a Prius to church on Sunday doing 25 MPH

Re: Views on vaping and electronic cigarettes
Some of the market for vaping IS cannabis. There are cannabis extracts, as well as CBD oil. But I believe most people would vape the whole herb. It's supposedly more therapeutic for pain or severe anxiety to vape, because it goes into your blood stream immediately and not broken down by the liver.

Re: Views on vaping and electronic cigarettes
I have never smoked, and have always found the smoke to irritate my lungs, nose, and eyes.
