Resmed Hose blows off the mask
Seems this is not uncommon. After a while the plastic/rubber, or whatever it is, stretches so is less firmly attached to the mask so it blows off.
Using tape to increase the diameter of the connection on the mask helped for awhile but now does not.
Now I'm told I need a new mask, something which seems overtkill, particularly for the more expensive heated hose. It should not be difficult to cut off the old connector and seal a new one to the hose BUT no one seems to offer a replacement connector. Or at least my Google searches failed in the attempt.
The hoses are not all that expensive but it bugs me to throw away a hose that could be repaired.
Anyone know of a source for an end connector? Or have any other ideas??
TIA
John

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
when my plain hose got loose and wouldn't stay on the mask connector, I just wrapped string tightly around the hose end while it was attached to the mask. Given the flexibility of the hose end, compresses it slightly, and makes it hold on tight. (couldn't pull it off the mask connector after that) simple, and cheap. lasted me that way for over a year, till I decided to treat myself to a longer hose.Tassie Devil wrote:Seems this is not uncommon. Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
I have used several methods for this problem, first being double sided scotch tape. Wrap a couple wraps around the part your hose connects to, a very good method but after several months the hose will slip off due to me turning over. My new method is duct tape around the outside while the hose is coupled up. Cant see it at night and it lasts forever or until u change hoses...

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
I use my hoses for a long period of time, and scrub the hose interior weekly with warm water and detergent on a long brush. In order to hold the hose connected to the mask and machine I use simple automotive hose clamps gently tightened over the "boot" that fits onto the coupling. The clamps are quite inexpensive at any autoparts store, and since beginning this practice I never have a hose come loose.

How long are these hoses being used?
My hoses get retired at about 6 months to a year, and this has never happened.

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
I have never had the problem...but...my suggestion would be to remove the hose from the machine and reverse the ends. Put the worn end on the machine and the fresh end on the mask. By the way....when I do change my hose, I use the old hose to enclose electric/computer wires. Just cut off the ends and using a scissors, cut the length of the hose.

LSAT, aren't you worried about giving your computer a virus from being in contact with your old hose...?

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
I kept my first one about three years. it wasn't leaking, and I could fix the slipping problem easily... I saw no reason to throw it out.chunkyfrog wrote:How long are these hoses being used?

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
Thanks for the replies.
I tried to buy that velcro from Amazon but for some reason the checkout button never apperared so I could not continue & gave up in the end. They insisted I buy more things.
Thank you all for the other responses. Some points in reply:
* the hose is a heated one and cannot be reversed
* it has been in use for near 18 months and functions perfectly except for the stretching of the mask connector
* the connector has stretched too much for tape etc on the outside of the mask (so internal to the connector) to retain grip under pressure
* I remove the hose each morning to hang it out to dry but maybe that is unnecessary as no water accumulates with current settings (as long as the tank is not over filled with water). So external auto/plumbing clamps would make that a less friendly ritual
But you have inspired a thought. Mybe there is some plumbing item with a completely unconnected use that would work. I'll investigate and report back if any success.
Apologies if this seems a lot of fuss about very little. But I fancy myself as a capable handyman and do nearly all electrical, plumbing etc repairs around the house. So it really frustrates me that I cannot repair this otherwise good hose.

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
What about silicone tape that sticks to itself as you stretch it around the connector?

Not everybody can get supplies as often as others. Awesome hints!

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
Tried that but sadly the connector has stretched beyond where tape etc application to the mask works. I'm guessing the shape of the connector is now more conical rather than cylindrical so that makes dislodgement easier under pressure. And BTW I have the autoset to 13 so that is relatively high so makes blowing off the hose easier.OkyDoky wrote:What about silicone tape that sticks to itself as you stretch it around the connector?
But I refuse to be beaten and WILL find another connector. You will hear about it if and when it happens.

Re: Resmed Hose blows off the mask
No progress with either plumbing or auto suppliers.
A net search for a rubber 20mm coupler revealed this item;
http://www.rubberstore.com/catalog/neop ... -8116.html
but they do not have supplies and want a minimum purchase of mopre than one.
Similarly Alibaba want one to buy 5000!!
But I'm not giving up!
