From Respironics: Noise on M Series

Post by Justin Case » Thu Aug 24, 2006 1:14 pm

I talked to Respironics on this subject and they have a LOT of complaints on this issue. Their engineers said the machine is NOT any more noisier than the the previous line, but the PITCH is different, therefore giving people the impression the machine is noisey.

So, there you have it folks! Try and and compare it before you buy!

I haven't noticed any noise problem with the M Series Auto. It's much quieter than my previous PB 420G

I'm with greyhound - I have noticed no noise problem and most of the night the machine is only about one foot away from my head, and never more than 2.5 - 3 feet. --- BT

I actually had the Respironics M Plus before I got my Vantage and I must say, it was alot nosier. My wife hated it. My Vantage is at least half as noisy. When I had my 1 week APAP trial, I was using the Remstar w/clfex and that was the quietest of them all.

Ok boyz, exam the logic behind your irrationalities:

Respironics HAS a Customer SUPPORT LIne. I called them. They guy said he was previously involved in determing the noise level. In no way did he say NOT to buy the M series, I called to ask what the difference was.

Come on guyz, get a grip and leave your conspiracy theories to the books and movies

Maybe Respironics doesn't like the sound of some of your voices or the questions you ask, so they won't talk to you.

I have talked to Respironics on several occasions and they have been very helpful. However, the said cannot be said about their support via email.

I have heard both the M series and the other Respironics models, and to me, the M series is noisy.

I have used both Resmed S8 Vantage and now have the M Series Auto. In my opinion, the M Series auto is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than the S8 Vantage (My wife would also concur).

I believer every sound opinion on this thread, but not the unsound ones.

Respironics told me that the M series are quieter by 2 decibels than the older version machines. They do admit however that M series has a higher pitch. Some of us do not mind the new pitch. Some of us have a strong adversion to anything resembling a whine. This, I believe accounts, for some of the testimonies on this thread. Anouther reason for the differences in opinion is that various machines will not have linear decibels and pitch versus pressure and flow. In other words a given machine can be louder than anouther for one listerner and quieter for anouther and both are right. That is to say nothing about the orientation of the machine to the ears and the distance. The cleanliness of said ears can also be a factor as can the density of the atmosphere on that particular day. Then there is the issue of noise traveling up the hose. No kidding this can be an issue and that opens anouther can of worms, er hoses.

Simple, isn't it? Now it is time to strap in, turn on and lights out. My machine rumbles like my mommy's womb. Real comforting!

Respironics doesn't include a noise spec on their machines, because it wouldn't mean a thing and could be desputed.

Being deaf and using XPAP, could be a blessing. Your Respironics Rep was, telling it like all Reps do, give them what they want to hear, they won't know the difference, We've got to keep this phone line open for inportant calls from our friends. Jim

I just got a M series auto with CFLEX on Monday. It makes a different "noise" than my prior machine, a Resmed S8 elite. There is a distinct Darth Vader sound while breathing on my new machine. However, I am feeling better on the auto than on the S8, so the benefits clearly outweigh any additional or different noise from the M series machine for me. I already have to live with a mask and hose for 1/3 of everyday, what's a little extra noise to get used to?
