You are certainly making a big deal out of a post pointing out a magazine article on Sleeping problems. I don't give a rats ass about what is in your study or the one in Consumer Reports. I don't agree or disagree with either. Readers can decide for themselves. By the way...you seem kind of cranky today...didn't sleep well last night?ChicagoGranny wrote:Please cite some research that contradicts what is in that study.LSAT wrote:Your article is 15 years old..lots of research since

Just about any drug, supplement or indigestible substance you can think of has it's pros and cons. It's always a high-wire balancing act and there's no safety net. Less is best, IMO. That said, you've gotta do what you gotta do to get by. Sorry for all the sloppy metaphors, I seem to be thinking in metaphors today. Hey, it's New Year's Day, what'd you expect... I'm surprised I'm thinking at all

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Re: The Dark Side and Downsides of Melatonin
After my CPAP therapy was working well, I tried one mg melatonin based on recommendations in the forum. I worked at this for about six weeks, trying even half of a pill. That was a bad six weeks, and I finally threw the melatonin out.
My sleep was more messed up than ever, and it took about two weeks to get over the melatonin.
I am doing well now without any sleep aids. I have learned how to keep good sleep hygiene. That's better than pills.

Re: The Dark Side and Downsides of Melatonin
LSAT messaged a link to an article (http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/su ... melatonin/) that puts a slightly more positive spin on melatonin. But there are just too many "suggests", "may", "in one study" and "in one animal study" for me. There are also many cautions and warnings. I will continue to recommend against melatonin for regular use.
If you have bad jet lag, you might want to try it for a night or two.
That brings up another point. Gramps, who traveled the globe for years on business, says his jet lag problems went away once he started using CPAP.

Re: The Dark Side and Downsides of Melatonin
Oh, I forgot to mention this important quote from the article LSAT provided.
So, think about that when you are taking a 1.0 mg tablet. You are taking more than three times what your body normally produces of this powerful hormone.the amount that our bodies normally produce (< 0.3 mg per day).

Re: The Dark Side and Downsides of Melatonin
I took 1.5 mg of Melatonin for years with great results. Only the sudden onset of sleep apnea made it ineffective. Last night I tried alcohol and Temazepam, but I still woke up after only a few hours sleep.
