Preventing bugs from entering hose

Post by OSAdude76 » Sat Dec 26, 2015 9:55 am

I'm sorry if this is a gross topic, but it has been "bugging" me. How do you prevent bugs from getting in your machine? I read a couple older threads where people have worried about bugs or actually had such unpleasant experiences of seeing them.

Is there an ideal way to prevent this from happening? My ideas are to stuff a paper towel in the mask when you are not using it or let the machine run for a few minutes so any creepy crawlers will fly out.

I've gotten "bugs" in my computer but never in my CPAP. Never heard of anyone having that problem. I guess it depends on how clean you keep your house and where you keep your CPAP equipment.

A baggie and an elastic over your mask in the morning should help.

It is a problem of perception of what MIGHT happen than of actual occurrence.
Stop reading the scary stuff! Some posters are only there for ENTERTAINMENT. (Theirs)
It is actually quite rare, like swallowing spiders in your sleep.
Spiders just don't want to go there!

Get two 4 inch blocks of wood, put bug on one block, smush it between the blocks. Jim

Bugs are just part of the diet in some parts of the world
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I also turn the machine on for a bit before I connect my mask (very short ramp). Seeing the occasional earwig in the bedroom makes me want to take that precaution. At one point I was using old stockings for storage as a precaution. If the mask and headgear is larger, old pantyhose work great - drop them in and use the legs for a loose tie. If I'm gonna eat a bug, I would prefer it be deep fried then covered in chocolate.

Take your mask off the hose every morning, put it into a plastic baggie or a drawer, then put a mesh baggie over the end of the hose, secure it with an elastic or string. Simple, common sense. Me, I shut my machine off, take my mask off my face and hang it over my hose buddy..... until I'm ready to put it back on at bedtime

Do you really think that would be a problem for you? Do you have bugs in your bedroom? Where do you live.......your profile doesn't show any location.

Shouldn't be hard to find some kind of mesh bag with a draw string to put over the mask to seal it and yet let it get some air.

I've never had a problem with that, but a little extra protein in your diet shouldn't hurt you........

The warm winter thus far has the Asian Ladybugs in the midwest of the USA pretty active. I can't speak for other areas. These little dotted beetles are annoying as all get out. One or two will show up and then call all their friends. They will swarm in the home, no matter how clean or hygienic. They are mostly harmless, but give off a nasty smell when frightened.

Because these little buggers are attracted to electronics and warm places (lights mostly), I can see where it would be a worry.

I've been putting a clean knee hi, secured with a rubber band on the hose opening when I remove for cleaning. I don't have a swarm in my bedroom, but that doesn't matter. I had some on the back porch and on a hall light last week. I also shake out my cpap and visually check the inside and the water reservoir every night. I hate these beetles so much.

Here's a link to University of Kentucky site discussing the origin and infestation of structures by these little pests/aphid eaters. http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef416.asp

You guys are bugging me out, I have visions of that mouse caught in that mousetrap, using it as a exercise machine to the tune of rocky.

What if a bug crawls in my hose, and I turn the machine on and he doesn't blow out because he has been exercising getting stronger to attact later at night! Something else to dream about, thank you! Jim

A good argument for closed or transparent drink containers!
And to think; I have a Mason jar with a STRAW on my nightstand!
Never sucked anything unexpected through it--YET!
