Newly diagnosed. Any advice?

Post by MikeZzz » Tue Dec 15, 2015 1:21 pm

I am a 33 year old male, overweight, and recently diagnosed with OSA. MY AHI was 118, with O2 saturation levels around 70%. I have put this off for a number of years, and my health has suffered greatly. So, I am hoping I can finally find some relief and get on the right track.

I have not gotten my CPAP yet. Last night was the titration study, and I actually slept pretty well with just the nasal pillows. I am planning on purchasing a CPAP machine outright, along with a nasal pillow mask, and full face mask for when I am congested or sick.

I am curious if anyone might have some advice for me on the CPAP machines, cleaning processes, or anything else you found useful in your journey. I appreciate any advice I might get.

-Mike

MAke sure you read "What you need to know BEFORE you meet your DME" in my signature below. It's a bit outdated--particularly the info about which machines to get is out of date, but the information is very useful.

Be sure to get a copy of your prescription IN YOUR HAND. That will help if you have a choice of DME's or you choose to buy elsewhere.

Learn all you can about machines, data, and masks BEFORE you get saddled with whatever makes the best profit for your DME. Click on the lightbulb above for lots of useful information.

Get a full data machine. If you have a question about a particular model, ask here before you buy.
If you get and use a humidifier, always use distilled water to avoid cleaning issues.
After you get the machine, ask about any issues or questions that come up.
