It's like Trump says about some of his opponents - low energy people. I bet Trump would say CPAP won't help them.

After viewing the latest poll results.......I'm now feeling "inadequate". My therapy results didn't fit the categories with the majority of the votes. Boo-Hoo......

Well you can add my story to your list.
When I first started therapy my biggest unwanted symptoms that went away were the nocturia and the killer morning headaches...really couldn't see much of a difference in overall energy levels but I knew cpap therapy was working because the nocturia was gone and the killer morning headaches were gone and while I still wasn't sleeping as well as I wanted (other health issues unrelated to sleep apnea were at work) I kept at it because just the absence of the nocturia was well worth it to me.

Fast forward 3 or 4 years and I had been pretty much 100% compliant except for extreme circumstances (like a stomach bug) and I went on a little trip and forgot the long hose and didn't realize it until way too late to do anything about it but sleep without the machine until the next day when I would go hose hunting.
That night reminded me rather brutally just how bad I could/would feel if I didn't use the machine.
I realized that overall I had been feeling a lot better than I thought I was when I compared to how I felt after that one night without cpap.

Very similar for me too. I noticed some things right away. My first night at home after the sleep study, and I realized just how crappy my sleep was. Once using it at home, I noticed fewer bathroom trips right away. Other things took a few weeks to realize no more night mares, choking fits, or headaches. The energy level goes up and down depending on how many times i wake up. I don't have perfection yet, though some nights would qualify.

Many of my other improvements were subtle. More cheerful. Not tired all the time. Not reaching for an energy drink. But I don't know when those happened. different things happened at different times.

Last weekend, I made the mistake of leaving my cpap in the car and not realizing it until after midnight. Most hotel parking lots are fine, but this one was creepy. No way I was going out there by myself that late at night. No people. no cameras, far away from any kind of help. I woke up several times that night, multiple bathroom trips, and a choking fit. Definitely a mistake. I made sure i brought it in early the next night. Much better.

I did not vote on the poll. Most polls do not have a really accurate answer for me, and I don't want to add a misleading response.

It will probably come. I remember that in October. I had a perfect nights sleep. I woke up so refreshed. I haven't slept that good since last year. Brain fog was completely gone. I still had cognitive issues and lack of alertness and the rest of the issues with sleep apnea. But I feelt so great and tranquil that day. I feelt like my old self somewhat. Everything just seemed much better. Just work on your health. Lose weight. Exercise. Exercise sleep hygiene, clean up your diet. Fix your sleep architecture. Treat any other conditions. All these added up should serve to give you better sleep and more energy. And you should be be back. But don't expect miracles if you're older.

I noticed a change the day after my split-night test; despite sleeping only fitfully with a leaky FFM for about five hours, I was more awake and alert than I had felt on waking in years. It was tough to have to wait over a week for a PAP machine of my own!

From day one with my new machine I was sleeping longer and waking less (with fewer trips to the bathroom, too). I rarely fell asleep on the couch. I was able to start exercising, which helped my energy level even more. I retook the Epworth Sleepiness Scale a few weeks after starting PAP therapy and I'd dropped from 17 to 8.

For me my life changed immediately, for example, my wife was actually still sleeping next to me in the am, and not in the guest room chased off by my thunderous snoring. Also, I stopped having dreams about drinking gallons of water from severe cotton mouth caused by snoring. I think I felt better physically after a month or so....

Heartjumping:

I am rather new to this process myself. I noticed the "mental clarity" thing waking from my second sleep study. The thing for me though is that it has been sporadic. I am experimenting with the pressure, with my doctor's knowledge, and am not at the point I think where the benefits have been maximized yet. Takes time. I have noticed that I nap a lot less. I still nap (with machine on), but I think it is more out of habit and the fact that I enjoy them rather than from exhaustion like it used to be. The word that comes to mind after a good night's sleep is that my brain feels "sparkly". LOL.

Another wonderful side effect of the therapy, for me, is I no longer need Prilosec or Pepcid AC every day. I had horrible reflux and acid indigestion that put me on those meds every day for 20 years+. I've been off them for over two weeks and am fine without them.

I've mostly been lurking and learning since joining this board. I work full-time and sometimes more. So I don't have time to study the condition and the therapy to the extent some of the people on here do. I'd rather learn slowly myself than, God forbid, ask a question that has already been asked and have my head bitten off by some cranky retiree that has nothing better to do. LOL. So kudos for putting yourself out there, and best of luck on your SA journey.

Thanks. So far I'm still tired but I noticed something the other day that was pretty neat, I woke up once in the night and again in the morning and both times felt what I can only describe as mental alertness. Not energy, but no fog. One of those things you get so used to you just forgot what it felt to wake up alert. Hasn't happened again but it was an exiting little event. I also seem to be noticing more dreaming, and remembering them a little better.[/quote]

Well here's something that if someone else were to tell me I'd probably be skeptical! But I swear my memory is getting better. That part doesn't surprise me too much on its own, especially if we were mainly talking short term memory. But long term memory is improving too. I was just thinking of a place I used to work at 20 years ago, and not for a long time either, for only about 2 years, and I remembered the phone #, it just popped into my head the way old memories do. To remember that detail, and with absolute clarity and no doubt was amazing.
