Using Humidifier and now have chapped lips

Post by andycole » Sun Dec 06, 2015 8:17 pm

When I get a fairly long "sleep", I found the humidifier was running dry. So I lowered the setting and now am having problems with chapped lips. Anyone else having crazy issues like this? Is it safe to let the humidifier run dry?

You must be in a very dry area or in a very dry home. No...Do not let the humidifier run dry. Add humidity to your room and you will use less water. Put on chap stick before bed.

For future reference, it's lip balm.

I've just started with a CPAP and humidifier and found my lips drying out a bit but mine normally do in this weather a bit anyway. I find a lip scrub in the shower helps with flaky bits (I use one from LUSH but you can make your own. They are just oil and sugar really but LUSH does a popcorn flavoured one ) and for lip balm I use Lanolips which is the best balm I've used for getting some proper hydration in. Some people are sensitive to lanolin though so you may want to check that if you decide to use it.

It doesn't really get any drier than here in Colorado. My humidifier was running dry when I used a full face mask because of the mask leaks. I would get maybe 5 hours max out of it. Things got better when I went to the Mirage FX nasal mask and then when I went to the Swift FX nasal pillow it was even better. If I get lucky enough to make it 8 hours now there is still water left in the S9 humidifier.

I'd say it's mainly due to the full face mask leaking more than you realize. I was using Blixtex medicated lip ointment every night in the winter when using full face mask btw.
