Sleepyhead Question

Post by Sheriff Buford » Wed Dec 02, 2015 6:35 am

Last year I bought a new 'puter and I did not load sleepyhead till a few weeks ago. I always look at my morning stats off the screen and go about my day. I must admit sleepyhead offers loads of insight to my sleeping habits and patterns. The other night, I had a restroom break and I thought I turned the machine on when I returned, but apparently I didn't. Sleepyhead confirms my blunder, and I knew I didn't turn the machine on, because I felt lousy all day. I'm not a big sleepyhead-guy because I have been blessed with treating this disease very well. If I had issues, I probably would take more an interest in sleepyhead and its results.

Question: the overview section of sleepyhead shows how long my apneas were. But on the daily statistics screen, the apnea event shows to last up to an hour. It shows a big "block" that goes up to the top of the graph... then a straight line at the top of the graph for up to an hour, then it drops all the way down to zero. What's up with that? I know... I should know that....

I think you're referring to the AHI graph. It shows the cumulative number of events for the past hour, kind of a sliding AHI. Interesting, but not very useful, in my opinion.

Thanks, Jay. Yes... it's the AHI graph, and it does line up with the Event graph (incidents). But why does it last so long? It appears to be one event, and I know that I don't stop breathing for an hour... just curious.

The block shows an hour because it is a per hour graph...if you had 1 event during an hour the graph would go to 1 and stay there at 1 for an hour and then reset to 0.
If you had 2 events within an hour it would go to 2 and stay there for an hour and then reset.
If you had 10 events within an hour it would go to 10 and stay at 10 for an hour and then reset.
It has nothing to do with actual event duration...just how many within 60 minutes. I turned my AHI graph off a long time ago.
It's really a useless graph except to confuse and scare people which it is pretty darn good at.

I've seen a few of those -- apparently a sustained period of obstruction. I think mine results from mucus in my throat, mouth breathing and dry mouth events. I note that I usually wake up 'cause of the event.

apparently a sustained period of obstruction.
The AHI graph on the right side of the daily detailed report on SleepyHead has nothing to do at all with event duration. It's strictly how many events occurred during that 60 minute window and the window resets every 60 minutes.
Event duration is available in the Events tab on the left side of the daily detailed report.
