New P10 wakes me blowing air on my face
Sorry to be asking another question here, but my provider isn't available to answer questions. I really appreciate the help you give in this community!
I use an Airsense 10. Previously I'd been using an Eson nasal mask. I've just switched and have used P10 nasal pillows for 3 nights now. After reading some tips on this forum, I applied tiny amounts of lanolin around the inside rim of my nostrils to reduce movement and friction of the prongs against my skin. The last 2 nights, in early morning hours, I've been awakened by air being blown hard onto my face. I check, and the pillows are aimed into my nostrils and I can't determine any problem with mask positioning, but even once awakened, the air is just blasting. The sensations are different from my nasal mask, so I'm confused. As far as I can tell there's an area of the mask that vents exhaled air, and that sounds particularly loud when this occurs. A month or so ago I asked my provider what my level of pressure my unit was giving me, and she said that it was pretty steady at around 6. This morning when my mask felt like it was going crazy, my Airsense showed 9.5.
So is this sensation of air blowing hard on my face a typical experience at a time of night when sleep is usually pretty deep? Is it likely to be coming from the exhalation vent or from some other source of leak? Or is something wrong with my mask or how I'm using it?

Is it possible that your arm or your bed covers are up close to the mask and the vented air is bouncing off your arm or covers back to your face?
Also back sure that the nasal pillow is well seated in the frame and hasn't popped out a little.
The P10 venting system is very diffused and "blasting air" is not a common complaint if everything is well seated.
What you are describing is not common...just have to figure out where the air is coming from that is hitting you in the face.

Thanks. I appreciate the input. That'll give me some context as I try to figure this out.
I'm still wondering if the nasal pillows and venting get noticeably louder as the pressure becomes stronger. Perhaps the blasting sensation was from the sound?

There is a leak. The exhaust air vents forward, through the mesh on the frame.
Sometimes my pillows get misaligned, and air leaks onto my face/eyes.
I just wiggle the mask until the pillows re-seat to my nares.
Done it enough I do it without waking up too much.
Practice makes it easier.
Also make sure your headgear is not sliding around.
I tuck my hair under and behind the lower strap.

Re: New P10 wakes me blowing air on my face
Vent noise with any mask will increase as pressures increase because venting is increased.
The P10 is about as silent as they come in terms of vent noise but it shouldn't be blowing air back onto your face though.
With the noise complaint and the air in the face complaint....the first thing I would look at is making sure the nasal pillow hasn't come unseated (after I make sure the bed covers or my arm wasn't the culprit).
It's amazing how much noise air bouncing back to the face can make.

Re: New P10 wakes me blowing air on my face
My data just showed up on My Air, and my seal was 20/20. Either the duration of the event was too short to affect that measure, or else my feeling of having a runaway train on my face came from the much louder sound as pressure increased. I will try all the suggestions, thanks. It was a cold night, and I did have my covers up close to my face, so that could well be the case.

Are you sure you haven't put the mask on upside down???? If you take your mask off at night to go to the biffy you may have inadvertently put it back on wrong.
I never take my mask off after I go to bed, when I need to get up for any reason, I just turn off my machine and unplug the small hose from the larger one.
(Even when someone came to my door at midnight one night... what a scare he had, old lady in her jammies with some weird thing hanging off her face )
Cheers

Good point, and I disconnect as you do, although I don't bother to turn off the machine. I do feel like the Elephant Woman. I'll share a mishap I had when I was using the Eson nasal mask, which not only has a vertical plastic bar that distorts vision, but also has a rigid plastic projection from the front of the mask: I got up during the night, wearing my hard night guard and the mask on. The plastic bar distorted my vision and in my sleepy state I walked ^hard*, face-first into the wall. It was hard enough to daze me, and my upper lip area was sandwiched between my night guard and the hard projection on the front. Split open my skin, inside and out. I felt really stupid, and bought night lights after that.nanwilson wrote:Are you sure you haven't put the mask on upside down???? This thread is over 6 years old.
Try the suggestions above. If you still need help you probably should start a thread of your own.
