Need advice on how to safely buy APAP off Craigslist
HI,
Decided I wanted to have a backup APAP and found this on Craigslist : "Resmed AirSense 10 for Her" never been used. (Picture shows the correct model).
"Can be used in Auto or Cpap Mode. Comes with...AutoCpap, Heated Humidifier, New Water Chamber, New Heated Tubing, New Filters, Power Cord,Travel Bag, SD Card". In an email he states that it is already fully paid for by Insurance - but that his mother liked her old one better and so never used it ???? Price is very good!
My question is how I can make sure this is legit and under warranty? I would only take it where I could have a face to face meeting (located about 1.5 hrs away) so I could attach my mask and actually run the machine. Also I would then check blower hours etc, but what about paperwork and making sure that it could be serviced if needed in the future? Would my present DME (they sell both Phillips and ResMed) handle this? I wouldn't have normally gotten a ResMed (do a lot off off-grid-camping with a solar charged battery setup and my Phillips works great for that) but I know that the reviews on this model have been very good. So, am very tempted.
Thanks for any advice.

HI- about the warranty, I have a Resmed S10 auto set, but not the "for her" version. In the instruction book that came with it, says: "warranty claims on defective product must be made by the initial consumer at the point of purchase". "This warranty is only available to the initial customer. It is not transferable".
If you look at Second wind Cpap on line they sell used machines with a 6 month warranty, and an option to purchase from them, a 1 yr warranty.

Hi, thanks for the responses. Cardsfan, that's good info about the warrenty. Definitely gives me pause.
Metsfan302 I did look at ghost's listing and that is not the " for her" model so doesn't have the extra algorithm and his is more expensive. Price wise the one I am thinking about is such a good deal but I must factor in no warrenty. Again thanks to you both for the info.

warranty for a backup machine may not be all that important. How many hours do you expect to put on the machine before the warranty is up anyway? Will it be expected to fail with that many hours on it? Anything is possible, YMMV.

Paid in full by insurance even though it was never used? So there was no compliance monitoring going on? That seems a little unusual.

But it also says she liked her old machine better, so they probably already measured compliance for insurance purposes. My aunt gets a new machine on a regular schedule (every 3 or 5 years, I forget which), and they never checked compliance after the first machine.kaiasgram wrote:Paid in full by insurance even though it was never used? Exactly. I've offered amounts to people on Craigslist, explaining that they are asking exorbitant amount (sometimes more than what you can buy it new on Cpap.com) for a used machine that has no warranty. I have to say though, in one case, I actually helped a seller adjust his machine and he took it off sale and is happily using his Cpap. He had no help from either DME or Sleep Center and had given up.jagzoo wrote:Hi, thanks for the responses. Cardsfan, that's good info about the warranty. Definitely gives me pause.
