Help! I still dont have a mask that works!

Post by Goofy Lady » Fri Nov 13, 2015 11:44 am

Hello, I still have not been able to find a mask that works! Still havent been able to even get use to machine! Now I have lost my insurance that was decent. I have to pay for all my supplies. Ouch! I make a modest living and cant afford buying all theses masks hoping that one will work.
I have PTSD from just the incompetent sleep center. SO, I received a Mirage Liberty Hybrid mask. I have been breaking it in slowly. But at first I noticed it was very painful to wear. I am running out of choices for masks, so I figured I can get use to it. Well, thats not happening. It hurts my nose way too much. Last night I could only stand it for 6 min.
I looked at the Oral mask. Does anyone have any suggestions?
On my mask, I do have the small nasal pillows, but it pushes my nose way up and it burns.
I have chronic pain and im sensitive to the touch everywhere. SO, I dont know if this is the problem. I definable do not have a supportive sleep center. Im on my own now!

Chronic pain? Like on your face?
It is important not to wear any mask too tight.
The cushion/pillows must rest gently on your skin, fully inflated, without creases.
If you have not yet tried a mask liner, pad-a-Cheek might help.
Or a fabric mask. (Sleepweaver)
Or even a total face mask, as it only touches around the perimeter of the face.

I have a Sleepweaver Advance you can have if you'd like to try a cloth mask. Let me know and I'll cancel my sale thread for it.

Been using the DreamWear mask for three nights now, after two weeks of switching between a Wisp Nasal Mask and AirFit P10 Nasal Pillow. The DreamWear is awesome so far in my new to CPAP book. Hardly feels like I have anything on and there is nothing up or on your top of nose. It sits below your nostrils, hugging the bottom of your nose.

Here was my first night review. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=108858&p=1038158#p1038158
Thanks for the help
Paul

I feel your pain Goofy Lady. I have been using the same mask since i started and should have advocated better for myself. Been dealing with leaks more than focusing on other things

I found out the tighter I make the mask the more it leaked. I think thee is a fine line between success and failure as far as tightness goes.
We have the same mask. Make it comfortable, head straight and looking forward. Should not feel any pressure points.
Only problem I have had is my nose itches.

No nasal pillow mask should be "pushing the nose way up"...and that includes the nasal pillows on the hybrid masks like the Liberty. If it is moving the end of the nose .....it's too tight.

You might read Rooster's hints on using the Hybrid.

What masks have you tried and failed with?

Thanks so much to everyone and there helpful comments. I have tried the Quattro FX for her and it leaked into the eyes. I have tried the kind that full face with a nob to tighten on face but it hurt too much, and now Mirrage liberty hybrid full face mask. it hurts my nose way too much and it started to leak so I was afraid to loosen it. Then I tried a nasal pillow and I really need to be able to open my mouth.
I wouldn't mind trying the dream weaver?
how would we go about getting that mask to me if you haven't already sold it?
Today, I am seeing the incompetent office-sleep center. To see if lowering my pressure for the beginning could help me get use to it. Im at a 14 to start.
thanks again everyone.

How come you really need to be able to open your mouth? Is it nasal congestion where you just have to open your mouth or is it out of habit?

When you tried the nasal pillow mask...just how bad was the leaking?
Was it really big leaks for a prolonged time? Did the mouth opening leaks wake you up often?

^^ +1. I don't think the Sleepweaver is going to be better than the other nasal masks you've tried if you are having trouble breathing through your nose. It's a nasal mask, too. But if you can breathe through your nose, you might need a chin strap to keep your mouth from opening.

Sorry for confusion, im new to this.
The nasal pillow doesnt leak, my mouth just popped open due to so much pressure.

Mouth-It is habit. Im used to opening my mouth because my nose gets clogged.

I got my machine pressure turned down yesterday to 9. Much better but..........
My nose burned really bad when I used the Hybrid mask-it feels as if the mask was pushing up my nose. So, then I tried just the nasl pillow, It was better but then it burned really bad. How do you get use to so much pain?

I have chronic pain, which every part of my body and face is sensitive to the touch. I am wondering if this is causing me problems too.
Im not giving up, I ordered a chin strap to see if this helps.

thanks again.

Are you using a humidifier on your machine? Maybe you need to set it higher or lower - my nose got dry the first night because I didn't have my humidifier set high enough.

Yes, i use the humidifier but it doesn't feel like pain from dryness but actual pain of the nose.
But...I will turn it up just in case. Thanks

Just how tight are you getting those nasal pillows? If you look in the mirror has the end of the nose got squished or turned up or moved any at all?
They should rest gently against the nostrils and that's all. They shouldn't displace the nostrils.
