Leaks are driving me nuts

Post by shadowfx78 » Sat Nov 14, 2015 1:54 am

I am having a horrible time dealing with the leaks of my Airfit N10 im waiting on my Padacheek liner to see if that will help. Im seriously thinking of trying another mask I have a few weeks left to be able to do so. Just wondering what kind i should try I have been pondering a nasal pillow mask and have asked my supplier for a AirFit P10. she didnt have any in stock so have been waiting. I wanted to talk to her the other day when i picked up my ClimateAirLine but had to leave as my ride had to be somewhere. Im so very tired n want to sleep just cant get past these leaks.

On another note i was able to look at my data in sleepyhead and its rather interesting. What is an unspecified apnea?

You might also consider the Swift FX if the AirFit P10 doesn't work well for you. I'm using the AirFit P10 right at the moment, only because I have a sore on the side of my nose that needs to heal, and the AirFit P10 doesn't push on it. Leaks keep waking me up with the Airfit P10, though, the AirFit P10 headgear doesn't work for me, but the Swift FX headgear does. I just have to be careful not to wear the Swift FX too tight, which I did do for too long without noticing apparently, but I'll go back to it when my nose ow-ie heals *smile*. Hope that the AirFit P10 works for you, just mentioning the Swift FX in case it doesn't.

Wish you luck with finding a mask that works well with less leaks for you. That does make cpap much more tolerable *smile*.

To reduce unintentional mask leak -

- Make sure the mask is fitted properly. (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure the headgear is adjusted properly (See mask manufacturer's video.)

- Make sure to use good hose management - the hose should not pull on the mask. Notice how your hose is positioned between machine and mask. It should be positioned to minimize any pull on the mask. Hose management is an individual practice. How it is done depends on the mask, the position of the machine, your sleeping position and other factors specific to the individual.

- If your mask still has excessive leak, try other masks. Many people report trying several masks before they find one that works well for them.

- Video for your mask is at https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html

Usually seen when the leak is big enough to impact the machine's ability to decide what type of event is happening. It knows something is going on but not sure what. Usually when this happens and if the leak gets even bigger the machine will begin to not even sense the events.

The only exception appears to be the ResMed Adapt or ASV machine and UA in SleepyHead isn't UA in ResScan.
With your machine though...it's an unknown apnea and the biggest cause of seeing UAs is excess leak.

I have figure out a solution it turns out that i had my mask too tight and have purchased a PadAcheek mask liner. It has really decreased my leaks so now I am totally pushing anyone i can to get one.

I recently tried the form-fit pillow offered here a week or two ago, the one with combination buckwheat hulls and foam pieces for filling. I was really surprised at how it lowered my leak rate. On the second night's use I had one of the lowest leak rates I've ever had. YMMV of course, but this hybrid buckwheat hull/foam filling has really made a difference for my leaks. Both frequency and size of leaks has dropped noticeably, more than the straight buckwheat hulls alone.
