I have centrals too and a neurenteric cyst near my clivus. have you found anything that can help centrals? yes over 10 seconds is really terrible and can do damage to all your organs including your brain and heart. the brain develops lesions from long term sleep apnea.

My DME advised that in order to upgrade I would have to have another sleep study and that Medicare would not consider another machine until after 5 years. In July I purchased a gently used PR 960 Auto SV Advanced from Secondwind.com and since using this I have had very few CA's and in addition find that I also have very few apneas when supine sleeping. When side and stomach sleeping I have Hypopneas with an AHI of 1.5 to 2.00. Unfortunately I turn over after the first hour or two.
I am sleeping well and feeling good in the morning so am generally satisfied with my treatment.

the bipap auto sv isn't really working for me, I can't sleep through the night on it. I think it is only effective if I take a sleep medication maybe because the medication lowers the central apnea index or amount of centrals per hour.
the neurosurgeon I saw said that the cyst was far from brain structures and advised me to just leave it.
I think the 18/14 is a correct pressure for me to raise O2 to healthy levels above 90%. they titrate this at the lab while they measure your O2 levels and the high pressures are necessary to raise your O2 to 95%.
I was advised also to go with an epap of 8-12cm. I also use auto mode and a max IPAP of 25cm or sometimes 18cm. I have a ramp of 45 min. starting at 4.0cm, maybe it's too low, PS min 2.0cm ps max 10cm or higher.

I think sleep apnea permanently damages your heart and brain and other organs, isn't it similar to having a stroke?

I am sorry but I can only tell what I have experienced as I have only been dealing with Sleep Apnea for 16 months and know nothing about other medical issues and medications. I hope that you can get advice and support by posting your own topic. Good luck!

sickwithapnea, If your pressure is around 18 you should start your ramp at around 10 and reduce the time to 15 minutes.

I'm really wondering why do I feel so terrible like a car ran me over in the morning or even after a sleep titration on the asv?

by the way what are your settings on bipap auto sv?
the asv never works for me, I never feel good waking up and sometimes I wake up with really bad headaches and fog. maybe it's because I can't exhale
I need to take a sleep med maybe to reduce centrals and increase sleep continuity

I guess that starting the pressure at 10 and reducing the ramp reduces the amount of damage?

I am a 74 retired male and am being treated for High Blood Pressure and Coronary Artery Disease (4 stents) and have been on BIPAP for 4 months. I have been getting AHI's below 3 for the last 2 months after discovering that my higher readings were due to sleeping on my back. My concern is Central Sleep Apneas which seem to occur in clusters. My questions for a start are:-
1. Should I only be concerned when they are over 10 seconds ?
2. I am on Constant Pressure 18/14 H20. Should I be on an ASV or other machine ?
3. Are my Centrals Cheyne Stokes ? If so, where could I get more information on the treatment of these ?
Please let me know if more information and images would be helpful.
Thank you.

Hi,
I'm told by the sleep doctor's people that there is no way you can detect central apnea with cpap data
