HELP!!! Blindness

Post by troykindred » Tue Nov 10, 2015 2:17 pm

Wanted to see if anyone has heard of anything like this. I'll list a timeline below
May 15, 2015 Office visit. diagnosed with sleep apnea
July 10- did an overnight sleep study
July 23- office visit
Oct 2-Another overnight sleep study with cpap machine
Oct 22- got my own machine to take home
Oct 28- woke up in the morning, not being able to see out of my right eye
Nov 3- Seen eye doctor, diagnosed with OPTIC NEUROPATHY.

Needless to say, I'm am blind in my right eye( the doctors first assumption is it's related to sleep apnea) and have taken a lot of different tests(which could come up with what actually caused this) in the meantime. My next eye appointment is the 18th.

Related to apnea, not the treatment, I am sure.
Too bad it took so long to initiate treatment.
If not your fault, maybe a tort?
A lawsuit can't bring your sight back, but might drive home the fact
that it is criminal to make patients wait so long they suffer additional harm.
Do you know a good malpractice attorney?

Do you have Diabetes? That's the cause of Diabetic Retinopathy.

If you have a leaky mask (blowing air into your eye), that could also be a problem/cause.

My guess, if you don't have Diabetes, would be the latter.

You don't have your equipment and settings in your profile. What mask are you using and what is all the rest of the info?

On the other side of this ... have you gotten your sleep apnea under control? Downloaded sleepyhead and looked at the data from your machine ? To prevent future negative results for the sleep apnea.

By now you understand the only one that will help with that is "YOU"
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

I was wondering the same thing. Is it normal to take so long??? And if I had gotten the machine in a timely matter, would it have stopped this from happening????

WHAT has happened?
WHAT is the cause?

Until you answer those questions, nobody can offer any theories.

ON is a result of (or related strongly to) blood vessel problems, cirulatory problems, and/or toxic exposure to some substance - not air after one night's Cpap use - and you either have some condition you haven't disclosed here (like diabetes) or that hasn't been diagnosed by your doctor, or something that incidentally came on at the same time as you started Cpap, but Cpap alone could not possibly be responsible for those things. Follow-up with your doctor.

You don't even know for sure yet that you have Optic Neuropathy. The tests will either confirm it or indicate further research is needed. I can say this as I had 5 different diagnosis for my sudden vision loss starting in February of last year. I went to 4 different doctors and had loads of tests. They kept coming up with 'the answer' but then I kept losing vision. Finally, they did find the answer and so far, medication and a spinal tap have supported their diagnosis. It's tough, but you can get through life with loss of vision in one eye. However, you want to make sure they are pursing this to prevent loss in the other eye. Consider a second opinion at the opthomology department of one of your state's medical schools.
