Airfit F10 FFM and bounce

Post by agood214 » Wed Nov 04, 2015 7:33 pm

In my search for the best solution for me - I'm trying the Airfit F10.

Things I've noticed:

1. The mask will "bounce" as I'm breathing - I'm cinched down well enough - but not crazy tight, anyone else getting that ?

2. Mouth dryness - I've read some threads and will go get some gel - and I turned up the humidity.

3. woke up from a nap because of this - I would be exhaling and the system felt like a respirator it's pushing air while I'm exhaling - it literally felt like I'm exhaling and the system is pushing me to inhale. - I've got the EPR on 2, and now setting it to 3 to see if this mitigates this. none of the nasal masks get this with me. The pressure had gone pretty high - for me at 11.5 and the system did not auto shutoff in a few seconds but continued to run when I removed the mask.

4. I was having trouble with mask fit test - it would bounce from happy to sad, but I had no leaks from the seal that I could detect.

You probably have it too tight... the cushion needs room to expand when the machine is first turned on. As for mouth dryness, I have the F10, before that used Quattro Air... these use the same cushion. My mouth is frequently dry as I'm a mouth breather. If I don't use a FFM, therapy air will leak out my mouth. There's not much I can do except make sure I have a covered mug with a bendable straw in the bedroom with water in it. The straw allows me to drink in the middle of the night w/o taking the mask off as I can pull the hose off the mask, take in some water, pop the hose back on and go back to dreamland. It's a little awkward getting the straw to get to my mouth, so I have to bend it to an angle to get the water.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.

Are you leaking? Make sure you are cleaning the pillow. I had the same problemm my second night and cleaning stopped the leak and thw bounce.

As you breathe in and out, the mask should move slightly.
When there is a bit of give, the pressure changes should not feel as harsh and sudden.
The cushion should gently "kiss" your face. Otherwise your poor face will get sore, maybe even blister.
Eventually, you will hardly notice the mask "dancing" on your face.
Many of us have "been there", too.

Orajel Dry Mouth Relief Gel works great if you know how to apply it. http://www.drugstore.com/orajel-dry-mou ... tid=183812

My F10 leaked like crazy at first. I determined that the seal at the elbow swivel wasn't seating well. A few minutes of connecting and disconnecting/rotating seem to take care of that. The one unexpected thing that I discovered about that mask is that it was pinching my nose closed enough that it made nose breathing difficult, forcing me to mouth-breath and get the dry mouth & sore throat. I have since been using Breathe-Right strips to hold my nostrils open and seldom get dry mouth nowadays. One other thing, the snap connection for the swivel/elbow can get "cockeyed" and cause large leaks, even though it seems like it's fastened properly. Good luck.

Sounds like you have it adjusted too tightly.

It would seem so, except, when adjusted more loosely, it leaks, badly. It's just due to the topography of my big nose... and it's very slim passages right where the mask contacts it. It isn't uncomfortable at all, or creating any sore spots, either. The Breathe-Rights really work well in my case. (almost all of the time)

Think there is like a gel or cushion type "strip" you can buy to place over your nose were it leaks, vs the breath rights. I've found at times the breath rights when removed hurt a bit...

Think the strip type thing u can find at Walgreens/ drug store in the wraps/bandage area- shoe insert/bunion stuff area

Online it's like a gecko something or other type thing

The "Gecko" pad just made large leaks happen for me. (and still closed my nostrils) I use the Breathe-Right strips to hold the narrow nasal passages open against the mask cushion. Many nights, I have zero excess leakage and my AHI usually doesn't go above 0.70 I have no complaints whatsoever and wish that more people's therapy worked as well as mine does.

I've also tried some Biotene mouthwash(just enough to moisten my mouth) if it gets bad. A bottle of water at bedside is my mainstay though..

an interesting fact; The F10 elbow can be quickly removed, a straw can be put through the hole and a drink is easily had without removing the whole mask and messing up the fit/seal. Works great for me.

Completely different concept.

Biotene mouthwash, or any liquid, is for moistening the mouth after it has gotten dry.

Orajel is for preventing the mouth from getting dry. An application at bedtime helps me for four to seven hours. Some nights, I awaken at three or four and make a second application which lasts until I arise.
