I was diagnosed with sleep apnea with a AHI of 45 and O2 of 85. I have to pick up my auto cpap tomorrow. Can you give me any Idea of what questions I should be asking the DME ?

As I said in another thread about prices being more expensive with insurance......"DO THE MATH!" (before you sign the docs)Ricochet wrote:Questin for you guys and gals.

Is your insurance helping you buy the equipment?
How much is your deductible and is your deductible restarting on January 1st? (you could be in for a financial shock if it does)
Make sure you've gotten a copy (or original) of your prescription.
Don't let them give you a machine that isn't fully data-capable. (avoid models with the words "Plus" or "Escape")

Make sure the machine is an Autoset 10.

Not to worried about the prices I have good ins. for DME its 80/20 I was told I would be paying about 25 a month for 10 months. The machine is a autoset 10
Re: Asking a DME
Find out exactly what mask swapping policy they implement.
All the mask manufacturers allow 30 days PER mask but often the DME makes their own in house rules.
Your insurance pays for one mask....any returns or swapping means to get credit for any extra masks that they won't get paid for involves some paperwork...some DMEs don't want to do the paperwork.

Re: Asking a DME
If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go check for yourself.
Read the Useful Links in my signature line at the bottom of this post.
If the machine says "ResMed" and "AutoSet," you're doing pretty good. Getting the right machine is 80% of the trick with the DME. Don't let him give you an Escape Auto. "AutoSet" will be written prominently on the machine. Lower right corner on the A10 machine, next to the power button on the S9 machine.
AutoSet for her is preferable, even for guys, if you get an A10, but I wouldn't spend much effort fighting for one.

If you don't get the answers from the DME, you can always turn around and ask the wall. You may get more reliable answers.
Or ask your questions here and read all you can here, You will get the best answers.
