New to Cpap
New to Cpap
I have a appointment tomorrow to get my cpap from my DME. I don't have any of the stats yet from my at home sleep study. I was told I have mild apnea with 6 events a hour. What questions and concerns should I ask the DME provider? Any follow up questions to send my Docs way? I have asked for a full copy of my report.
I believe I'm getting a ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet. I have no idea on mask and how I will be fitted. I'm also leaning towards a heated hose but if the DME is more than online guess where it will be ordered from.
Thanks in advance

Re: New to Cpap
the ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet is a good data capable machine and should do what you need. Many are at least started with this machine and most of those stay with it. The ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet comes standard with a humidifier and it's usually provided with the heated hose, which is a good idea with the humidifier.

Re: New to Cpap
Hi, I have the same machine and love it. I had to switch to a full face mask as the nasal ones did not work for me. All I can say is be patient. It takes time . Don't give up. Ask lots of questions to whoever your professional is(doctor or DME company. Stay positive!
Re: New to Cpap
Sleep Apena runs in the family. MY father has it, I have it. I have a tendency to be a mouth breather at night. I hate having dry mouth almost every day. I have a substantial deviated septum. I don't notice it causing airflow issues its just normal to me. I have been lurking here for the last week and have spent some time on some other sites looking at items and recommendations. I don't anticipate this causing alot of disruption to my sleep. Between my wife the cat and other items that happen at night I sleep fairly soundly. Of all the things that got me looking into this was my fitbit. Set at normal mode it says I'm very restless and with my dad's history I started this process.

Re: New to Cpap
Hello and welcome. Just want to suggest you verify the identity on the actual machine before accepting it. "Almost" the same wording can be a problem so just be sure. And don't accept info from the person dispensing the machine as gospel. They are not always as well trained as one would expect. You wouldn't be the first to be dispensed a lower level model. Sounds like you're on top of things so I'm betting you'll be able to manage any problems that might arise. Good luck with everything.

You might want to check out this site to be sure and not get a machine that is not data capable. https://sleep.tnet.com/cmd Just Click on the different Manufactures and it will show you the machines to avoid.

I got the machine and mask the details are below. The guy who helped me was good I cant believe the price difference between online and the DME provider. At least 50% more. I have insurance that works with the DME and to say they have a few odd policies is a understatement.
They also have a 30 day mask exchange policy.

Re: New to Cpap
One thing to ask about the 30 day mask exchange policy that I have seen from the DME's in my area. Ask if it is limited to a certain amount of masks in the 30 days and also try and keep the used masks because they can't give them to another person. I know the DME that I have told me they had a 30 day mask exchange policy, but they didn't tell me I was limited to 3 mask trials. So just get some clarification and find that out. You have a good machine (at least I think so) it is the same one I have. I hope therapy goes well for you!nikroft wrote:I got the machine and mask the details are below. I was also signed up for U-Sleep. Has anyone used this? If so how is it will it give me the same data as sleepyhead?

I think the U Sleep thing is pretty basic data....check it out to see what it offers but I can tell you right now that it pales in comparison to SleepyHead.nikroft wrote:I was also signed up for U-Sleep. Has anyone used this? If so how is it will it give me the same data as sleepyhead?

Re: New to Cpap
First night was ok. I had a couple issues arise leaks and noise with the mask and moved from the small to me medium pillows it seems to be mostly resolved. AHI for the night was 3.25. It took longer than I wanted it to to fall asleep and I woke up more often. My nose is sensitive this morning. The feeling like I have been using tissues too mush but has gotten a bit better. Any recommendations for lotions or balms to help with this?
I rinsed the mask this morning and am letting it air dry and spun the hose to get the condensation out of it. Its the heated hose so I will probably turn that up a bit.

http://www.myair.resmed.com is a program made to go with your machine. It does not give detailed info. like sleepyhead does, but it can be helpful.

For the sore nose you might try Lansinoh cream. You can find it in the baby section of Walmart and at other places. It was made for breast feeding mothers and it will to help to relieve your nose soreness. It doesen't take long before your nose becomes used to the pillows.
