What kind of doctor?
What kind of doctor?
What kind of doctor do you see for sleep apnea? Doctors that treat OSA can range from ENT, Neurologist, Primary, even dentists.

Re: What kind of doctor?
If you live near a large clinic with many specialists, see if they have a sleep center.... any of those you mentioned except a dentist, you could see but try to find a doctor with a special interest in sleep disorders. A dentist could do it too, but they will usually prescribe a mouth procedure, ents will often suggest soft palate surgery. Why not ask your primary care doc for a recommendation and referra in your vicinityl?

Some insurance companies (for the CPAP device and supplies) insist on one or more of these:ldyjane wrote:What kind of doctor do you see for sleep apnea? Doctors that treat OSA can range from ENT, Neurologist, Primary, even dentists.
1. Sleep Medicine specialist to interpret the study
2. The physician has an NPI number
3. The health care provider is PECOS enrolled https://ssl.texmed.org/wa40/TexasMedica ... x?state=UT

Re: What kind of doctor?
My GP referred me to a Pulmonologist... he's great. I also saw an ENT for tinnitus, he wanted to know why I didn't use him for apnea as well... but he probably would've recommended surgery.

Mine is a pulmonologist but she specializes in sleep medicine. I have a different pulmonologist for my lung issues. I think it can be helpful if you see a sleep specialist in a field where you have other issues as well because they have a better understanding of how the two integrate.

Re: What kind of doctor?
My Primary Care Dr. was the one who ordered the sleep test. I told him I snored. He ordered an at home sleep test for 3 nights in a row. And I was diagnosed and given a cpap. At my 6 month follow up for other issues, he asked me if I used the cpap. That was it. The respiratory therapist at my DME seemed more interested in my progress than my PCP did. So I asked the
RT to refer me to a good sleep dr. My sleep specialist is a pulmonary specialist. All he did was look at the data card from my machine. told me I was doing fine and to come back in a yr.
