cpap and dating

Post by duch29 » Sun Sep 06, 2015 11:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am a sleep apnea patient with central and obstructive sleep apnea , and I use cpap which is not easy as we all know it. I wish they invent something smaller. Also, I am a respiratory therapist so I deal with those patients all the time, this is my area of expertise. I want to create a dating site for sleep apnea patients, and I want to know your opinion on it, it would be really great to have such a thing online

You want us to define ourselves by having OSA and wearing Cpaps?

So after a normal work day, fun evening and lovemaking, lights go out, masks are slipped on and we go to sleep. A few hours later we're up and back to normal life, but apparently are so traumatized, set apart from normalcy by having worn a mask while asleep in the dark for a few hours, that we need a special dating site?

No thanks, no victim here!

Better to have a site that educates potential partners on OSA and Cpap, but does not target them as needing special care, just a bit of understanding.

Sometimes cpap IS easy--just saying! --and I feel MORE "normal" using it than without.
And, no, thank you. Why do you think we need another site to help us "hook up"?

Probably not as good an idea as you think. Yes, it's great that you want to create a community that brings like minded individuals together, but as Julie wrote, not that many people want to be defined as using XPAP. Yes, we're the very vocal minority here.

That being said, there are a lot of people that are in relationships where the other half is very accepting and accommodating of their other half using XPAP.

Most "significant others" will be delighted at not being subjected to nightlong calcophonous snoring!

Look, I am in my 60s and share a bed with my wife of decades... she is in heaven because of my CPAP and the ease with which that I took to it.

But if I were single, in my 20s or 30s or 40s, and experiencing the dating scene, I imagine that having OSA and needing xPAP therapy at night might present some problems, some imagined and some logistical. There is nothing wrong with airing out those issues here on this board.

Yeah... if the person is so shallow that they find the fact you need CPAP to be a turn off, then you should find someone else. CPAP is a device that helps you be more functional during the day and literally keeps you from dying in your sleep, it's not like it is some odd perversion or bad personality quirk that someone could find offensive.

As perversions go, don't knock it 'til you've tried it!
