Weird power consumption in "Off" mode

I just bought a AirSense 10 (used). I put my watt meter on it to see how it compared to my old one. The old one had a Purge mode after it was turned off. So I unplugged it every morning. Why waste electricity to run it when I am not using it. Since I wasn't using humidity I didn't need the purge.

I notice strange power readings on the new AirSense 10.
When I plug it in there is a quick spike and then it settles to about 5 watts for 3 minutes or so till the display turns off.
Then it goes up a lot to about 25-35 watts. It then cycles back and forth between about 25 watts to 35 watts. It keeps doing this.
Then I turn it on and it uses 25 watts wide open and 10 watts at breathing pressure. This is what I expect.
Turn it off and it goes to 5 watts while the display is on for about 3 minutes.
When the display goes off it goes back to its 25-35 watt cycle back and forth. This makes no sense. I am not using it so it should be about zero.
So for this one I will have to make a switch to turn it off during the day. I shouldn't have to do this.

Many devices draw current when turned off, it called standby, after all they aren't paying your electric bill. Then there's wall warts, that power the world, with my external drives and chargers I'll bet my house have 10 to 15 running. Then count t.v.'s I plugged mine in last week it sparked like I plugged a 1/2 horsepower motor, energy star my butt.

Either pay the bills or buy a dozen power strips, and box of bandaid to pad your worn out fingers from pushing the switches. Jim

If you don't already have it plugged into one, I'd suggest a surge protector outlet bar with on/off switch.

Push and hold the power button on top for three seconds, it'll put the machine in a low power sleep mode.

I'm well aware of how electronics work, just saying the way products are built today has little regard for power efficiency. Is our time worth so much we can't be bothered to walk over and turn on our toys..... Off no longer means off, in English or Spanish. Jim

Could capacitor drain and recharge make it more economical to leave some things plugged in?
I understand that some lights die sooner if you shut them off and turn them on repeatedly.
The cost of replacing the device may outweigh the energy expenditure.

Anyhow, my APAP resets the display every time I unplug it, so, not doing it every day.

Every light in the house is either LED or CFL--it adds up. Been doing that for over thirty years.

The annoying thing that my apap does when I unplug it and plug it back in for some reason is to change the default period for the "sleep report" to 1 month rather than 1 day. If you don't notice that, you can have some misleading information presented to you *smile*. Is that what you meant by "resets the display"? Just curious.

And the Chinese and Koreans, thank you for their jobs. While Americans are collecting the last of their food stamps.

CFL's are the worst, short lived, maximum environment polution, led's area much better solution. Jim Next year I'm switching to fireflies for lighting (true cold fusion)...
