Resmed Airsense 10
Resmed Airsense 10
Hi all. I got the resmed Air sense 10 a few months ago. The first 3 days took the skin off my nose so I purchased the nose pad that resmed offers. worked for one night and then had to find something else. I now use sensitive skin medical tape which seems to work. After much adjustment, I still find myself having to take off and out back the mask at least twice during the night because of leaking air. I want t be committed to this because I have had sleep apnea for a long time. The worst problem I am having, and I hope someone else has experienced this, is that I wake up with agonizing back pain due I guess to the way I sleep. When I don't wear the mask however, no back pain. I know it seems odd but I sleep on my side and I always have, cannot sleep on my back. No doubt this attributes to the pain. I hope someone can help.. Thanks in advance.

What mask are you using? The Airsense 10 is the CPAP machine model. It would be helpful if you registered and filled out an equipment profile (in text, not pictures) , so that perhaps someone familiar with your mask may be able to help you.

Thank you for that, a newbie. I am using the full facemask. I appreciate your help.

If there is any writing on the mask, its packaging, or literature, please copy it down.
There are dozens of masks of that type.

Thank you. I am sure its not the mask that's causing my back problems directly but the way it is forcing me to lay in bed.

You might also want to try nasal pillows and/or a nasal mask. There are many types of masks and each of us has our preference. The nasal pillows are the most minimal as they just touch your nostrils and have straps to hold on the mask. If you went through a durable medical equipment (DME) provider to get your equipment, there may be a mask exchange period during which you can return your current mask and try another kind. Most of us don't find the perfect mask for us on the first try.
I often get back pains when I wake up before getting a full night's sleep. I seem to need more sleep than most, but going back to sleep with CPAP until I am more rested often helps with my back pain. Everyone is different. CPAP itself should not cause back pain.

Re: Resmed Airsense 10
Hi Keepac, When I was first using CPAP I was using a mask that didn't work well for me; not comfortable, so my body was straining to be in the "perfect position" keep the mask minimally painful. That caused my neck and back to hurt. I also encourage you to keep working on mask fit or comfort. Or, possibly the tube is pulling your mask to an odd angle so that your body is trying to adjust. Tube control is another reason for back pain for the same straining to keep things fitting the best. If either of those are a problem the forum has lots of entries with suggestions. Good luck!
