That's a big difference. Get SleepyHead software or ResScan and make sure that the lower pressure is effective in terms of preventing the airway from collapsing.

If you aren't using EPR you might add EPR exhale relief to see if that helps with your GI discomfort.

So here’s an interesting bit of news.

In an appointment yesterday with a new Sleepy Doc, I said that I was using a nasal mask along with mouth tape. He is the head of the Sleep Lab, and he said that when he was in training at Stanford University back a few years, the attending physician told the class that he didn’t see any particular danger in using tape on the mouth. When I mentioned regurgitation, he said that a FFM would be about the same as tape as respects regurgitation.

Taping every night with minimal dry mouth.

Phil

I've been taping for over three years. It is the only way for me to get therapy without a terribly dry mouth.

I'm pretty sure my husband's cpap and mask suck. He has really bad sleep apnea, so this is a problem. I would appreciate any help with identifying a FFM that would work well for him. He's a mouth breather. He received a Philips Respironics REMstar Pro C-Flex + Auto IQ. I'm going to guess this is a brick? The mask he has is a ResMed Quatro FX. I would guess this mask sucks. He always complains that his mouth feels like a dessert when he wakes up, and that he doesn't think the humidifier works properly. Advice on a good machine and mask? Thanks!

I'm sure you will get some good help. But, do you realize what poor form it is to start your story on an unrelated thread? You should have started a new thread. Your problem deserves the kind of attention it would get in a new thread.

Good luck,

It's not a brick, if it says Auto IQ words on it then it is the model 450. Full data but an older model discontinued spring 2013 for the model 460. The Auto IQ like the 460 is a limited APAP mode capable machine. Might want to check the run hours to see if they gave him a used machine. Therapy hours can be reset to zero but total machine hours can't.

Dry mouth is from mouth breathing and that's why he was given a full face mask but even at maximum humidity delivery sometimes it simply isn't enough to rehydrate the oral cavity due to the size.
There is Classic mode which is available on the 450 in terms of humidity and it will give more added moisture than the regular default mode. Have to change it in the clinical setup menu though.
Classic mode might help ...might not.
I would see about getting the model 460 as it has greater humidity delivery options available with the heated hose that the 460 has available. Whether it will be enough is unknown but it might help to have more moisture output with the heated hose.
