Krousseau... do I detect some humor integrated into your useful and informative commentary?

Back to the RX comments-It would be very rare for a doc to consider an Rx for exactly 1 year. Most Rx's for non controlled substances are only good for a year. For ease of writing Rx's the convention is to write for 30 days worth and refill x 11 or if they want to see you sooner however many refills will get you to the scheduled followup. Thus insuring another appointment. If they wrote for 30 days and 13 refills it would take you over a year and would not be refillable & insurance would not pay.

krousseau, he was trying to trick the laypeople and asking how many bc packs to go 1 year. aside from doing prn refills, it will take 13 packs to last. alot of women have annual appt.s and get 1 c 11 ref's, then run short and force a call.
28 day pack = 4 weeks
52/4 = 13 packs
this will get them 1 years' worth. when we get prn refills i think alot of people try to get early fills and hoard them. i prefer finite no.'s of refills.

it's nice to see a NP on the forum. do you get to help a lot of patients with OSA in your practice?

also, racefan, that's equiv. to about 60 TONS of TNT !!!! i think OSA runs in my family. my dad was a judge and once fell asleep during testimony. he chalked it up to narcolepsy. he snored like a banshee, so i wonder if he had OSA

Hi babamamagogodede,

Don't be put off by the response to this thread you started. Most of them sleep more than half the time (like you and I), and perhaps they just couldn't comprehend what you were getting act. I must say I do appreciate the subtle way you tried to broach the real subject matter but you have to understand the people here are real fanatics and spend their dough on all the latest masks. hoses, new fangled equipment - not to mention imported distilled water. Some people think they must have it all and consequently blow their load. Never even reach the level you have attained.

But I understand your dilemma. What's more I can teach you the secret of ultimate success! And any small cost you incur will be recouped many thousand times over - trust me! I guarantee you will be making millions in only your your second or third month. What's more you can start working out of your own home with a mask on.

Obviously you have already made it to the third level. Good for you!! It is sometimes tough to get through the lead then copper stages. But lo and behold you made it to the silver level. This third level is often very hard to reach. Again - congratulations!!

Now it does become easier and best of all - no worrying about what is happening in the humidifier, trust me!

Of course there are security issues, which I am sure caused you to inquire on this forum to begin with. But just think about it, what thief would look in your humidifier anyway?

OK, so now what to do is increase the silver content. Right up to the water line on the humidifier. Pack it in there. Once you get there sell off all the silver. Yeah, I know, some of it turns green just like the copper, but don't fret about that. Just go out and buy all the gold you can. This actually works good in the humidifier, but don't tell anyone. For obvious reasons.

Once you pass this forth level it gets easier as people find it hard to spot what you are really doing. Which it repeat the process, right up to the water line, with platinum and finally diamonds. These fifth and sixth stages are never spotted in the humidifier and are completely safe.

You are now ready for the final stage and a real fortune awaits you! The trick at this stage is to find an evil DME ready to retire. Buy him out and the world is your doorstep, sky's the limit so to breath.

So there you have the start of it. Just call me on my 800 number for further details and where to send your first cheque. You lucky guy!

Bob F

P.S. - Hey tomjax, the answer is zip, nada, the big O - please call the above 800 number for details and where to send your donation.

I put diamonds in my HH, for the security, as long as they are covered with distilled water they are out of site. Who would look in a HH tand for a handfull of diamonds. It won't work for diamond rings. Jim

Sorry, nameless guest, but it looks like I may have snagged one who implies s/he is not a lay person.

Do not feel bad. I have asked this to MANY pharmacists, Docs, and nurses.

NOBODY, including you, has ever given the correct answer.
The premise of your math is flawed.

1 year= 365 days
28 x 13 = 364

The 365th pill must come from the 14th pack.
One way of looking at it is the correct answer is 13 1/28th pack.
The patient must get her last day of her year from the 14th pack.

This would be better answered using 6th grade level math.

not so fast there, mr. jax. your layperson calculator is flawed and hath failed you. what you do not realize is that bc pills are commonly done on a sunday start (look it up). since most of us dont write rx's on sun., they have AT LEAST 1 day to play with. here, we'll use 2010, and i'll break it down starting 1/1 (so a 6th grader can get it):

rx written 1/1/10 (just as example, of course i'm yachting that day).
sunday start means 1st pill taken on 1/3
next refill 28 days later (patient very compliant) 1/31
then 2/28, 3/28 and so on. being i are good in math , the last refill is due 12/5(count it down now...)
she fills this, and thus this final pack will last until after 1/1/11.
hmmmm...thats a year folks.

bing bing bing bing. I WIN !!! what do i get Tom?

dont feel bad. most laypeople didnt know that.

your answer wouldve been better served with 7 years of med. school (or at least an OB-GYN rotation)

I can understand why you hide behind the guest anonymity.
To show how misled you can be with logic, which will always fail to unambiguous FACT.

I used your 13 cycle logic for many years as did you.

After 35+ years as a pharmacist, I tried to explain to a pharmacy manager who scolded me for ADDINg a refill to a rx originally written for 1 yr.
orig + 11 refills.
She could not get it so I pulled out a calendar and MARKED a big X on Jan 1st and q 28 days thereafter.

Lo and behold the 13 packs ended on DEC 30th.
Her new years eve dose MUST come from 14th pack.
The 13 pack answer will work in the real world and in all places in which there are 364 days in a year.

Also, patients do not usually start on a sunday or any day to conform to the layout of the pack. They start on THEIR day and follow the pack till the last active pill and then start over on the top, then satrt the inactive or Iron pill till the end and then start Their day the next day on the new pack.

Your prize: a certificate for a 7th grade arithmetic review for CE.
New calculator upon graduation that will work on your yacht . Then you will be able to understand the fraction at the decimal point whne you divide 365 by 28.
Go to blackboard and write 200 times.
THE CORRECT ANSWER IS 14.
Class dismissed

Actually, the answer is zero.

Everyone knows that BCs are a powder, not a pill.

actually sunday start is very common. see:

http://www.thepill.com/html/ppil/using_ ... _start.jsp?

i know its a lot of work, but put it down on paper.

rx written on 1/1/10

start taking the 28 pill cycle on sunday, 1/3/10 (put big red x there)

13 packs will last until 1/1/11.

those are the fax, jax.

Just a quick poll... Is anybody here besides me putting birth control pills and silver in their humidifiers after reading this thread?
