Flem in my lungs

Post by bkonkoski@gmail.com » Fri Jul 10, 2015 4:36 pm

I have been on a Bi-Pap for three years. It is now causing me a lot of very heavy mucus or flem in the morning. I use it all night for 10 hours. I am in high pressures. It is a SR9 Respronics. I am on 17-24 pressure setting and have not slept without it in three years. Now every morning I wake up I have diflculty breathing. I have had every heart and lung test known and still have the problem. Any suggestions?

Do you have the humidifier on a higher setting than the environment might call for?

When you cough to clear things up, is the phlegm clear or cloudy? Is it at all yellowish or greenish (like olive drab)?
If its not clear, then that could indicate some sort of infection.

Check out if you have GERD (Silent acid reflux) it causes acid to go up the esophagus which then protects itself by coating everything with layers of mucus.
This used to be a problem for me before I got my cpap.

Try to raise the head of your bed by 6 - 8 inches and see what happens. If it reduces the problem go and talk to your doctor about antacids.

My only suggestion is to use Mucinex...it thins the mucus

It would be good to consult your breathing dr, or maybe a better one. Jim
