Feeling spacey from raising pressure

Post by sidesleeper7 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 1:01 pm

hi guys, im new here hoping for some advice, I have the resmed escape cpap, and I was using it on auto and I wasn't feeling fully rested so I changed the pressure on cpap mode to 13.8 at 13.6 it showed a ahi of 0.7 and when I raised the pressure to 13.8 my ahi went over 1 and when I awoke I am feeling spacey and kind of lightheaded, its hard to describe, I feel more rested and energized with the higer pressure but it makes the ahi go up a little, the spacey feeling is weird. anyone know what this could be, I am working on getting full data capable machine. thanks a lot.

The increase you made is insignificant. It should not have caused the "spacey" feeling. If you were comfortable at 13.6 stay there.. Sleep patterns vary from day to day . Your AHI increase is also insignificant.. It would help if you would fill in your profile. If you do get a different machine you should download sleepyhead to closely monitor your sleep patterns.

The feeling could be due to your inadvertently covering the CO2 vent with bedding - and you don't want to do that or rebreathe CO2.

Thanks for the reply, I didn't feel as rested with the pressure of 13.6 that's why I adjusted the pressure, will do once I get a diff machine. 13.6 felt comfortable but I didn't feel as rested when I woke up but ahi was lower. any idea what would cause the spacey feelings?

sorry didn't see your post, I don't think this is the cause but I guess it could be, anyway to prevent this?

You'll have to figure it out re your blankets, pillows, etc... do you use a Pap Pillow? Or possibly even a soft cervical collar that helps keep your head from ducking into the bedding?

Why would that matter? Forgive me for asking.

I feel a bit 'punch-drunk' or feel like much air has been pumped into me in the morning, though I might feel 'good' as well. After a few cups of coffee and moving around a bit, it usually 'lifts'.

You have to have accidentally blocked the vent for a few minutes to appreciate the disorientation that can result from rebreathing CO2.

How is one rebreathing it if mouth is shut and flow comes from hose attached to the machine? That is what I don't understand.

If you block the vent, the CO2 backs up into the mask and you inhale it.

Just wanted to add that I have felt a little spacey with the pressure at 13.6 also, seems like when I raised the pressure above 12.8 my AHI went up and the spacey feelings came about... any ideas what it could be?
