How is RDI calculated?

Post by rockncountry101 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 9:32 am

I have decided to purchase an AirSense 10 and I want to know, what info can it give me and will I be able to see my RDI. I know it calculates AHI, but my RDI is what is high.

The RDI (respiratory disturbance index) also includes respiratory effort related arousals -- RERAs.

Direct measurement of RERAs would require EEG technology. However, the AirSense 10 Autoset For Her has an algorithm for reporting RERAs. I think the "For Her" model is the only one in the new line that does report RERAs. I don't know if you get an RDI number in addition to the AHI, but the RERA score should help you get an idea about the big picture.

On my last sleep study using ASV equipment, my AHI was 0.6 but my RDI was 6.6.
Interestingly, I also had an unspecified arousal index of 9.1 unrelated to anything breathing related.
So my total SDI (sleep disturbance index) was 18.0 even though my AHI alone showed excellent treatment.
That was reflected by my awake time after falling asleep the first time exceeded 14% the total time of the test or about 8 minutes for each hour. BTW - that is what goes on every night for me.

So, I can relate to your concern about RDI reporting.
