Machine or me?

Post by goldfinch » Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:57 pm

I have used my ResMed Autoset S9 for four years with few issues. Tonight I put the mask on (I use full face masks, am a mouth breather) and turned on the machine and immediately felt like I couldn't breath. The machine had no signs of malfunction, air is blowing out the hose just fine. I take off the mask and I am fine. I unplugged the machine, plugged it in again, and tried again. Same thing, I feel like I can't breath despite the clear pressure of air coming into the mask.

Usually I have only 1 or 2 apnea events per hour. Using the machine for .1 hour shows 8.5 events. Which makes no sense.

Any trouble shooting I can do? Here it is, 11pm, and I am afraid to go to sleep without my machine. I always use it. I suppose I probably will have no choice.

all I can think of offhand is to check the hose, and humidifier cover to be sure it's closed firmly.

Checked hose, humidifier, all fine. Changed masks and ports to mask. Nothing apparent that is wrong.

Maybe I figured it out. I thought I had changed the port that goes between the hose and mask but I just tried both masks again and one seem not to be allowing any air to escape. The other is. This might be it. I am wearing the mask that does allow air to escape the port and it seems fine.

I'll try to sleep. This was very upsetting.

Sounds like you may have had that attachment on backwards!
