I started to use a CPAP machine on 6/2/15 and on 6/5/15 I noticed my feet were swollen. My feet are worst in the morning and I have developed pitting edema 3+.
I have read many posting claiming the started to have the same problem when the started their therapy. I have been monitoring my blood pressure and it pretty good ( ranges from 114/66 to 98/56). Should I contact my pulmonologist, MD, or respiratory therapy? Where do I start?
Thanks

Pat S

Your family doctor - that's what they do - evaluate the situation (they are fully fledged doctors after all!) and then make a referral, if necessary, to an appropriate specialist as they see fit.

Pat S. while some on the forum have mentioned other causes. As you did not tell us about your pressures and treatment. I wonder if the problem is that you are on one of those Auto Titrations where the machine is set wide open. 4 to 20 or some such thing??

Never use compression stockings while sleeping, might end up needing to have the feet amputated. I had a bud who had ankle swelling, edema, after Open Heart Bypass surgery, (We were homeless, slept outside, and for our protection slept near each other on the ground in a ravine) his Cardiologist told him not sleep with his socks on anymore, Problem solved. Indicating that not one solution is for everyone.

I do feel it is a go to see doc soon problem.

Increased heat and humidity usually cause swelling in my feet and legs to increase tremendously. However, I have diabetes and that's a side effect anyway. I have been on Cpap for a month, and alas, no difference in swelling.

Before my BC surgery, I was referred to a lymphedema therapist, to take baseline measurements.
With only the sentinel node removed, my risk is low, but still present.
Prevention and early intervention is key. Waiting for it to go away is futile, and dangerous.

Sleep Apnea can cause heart problems which in turn can cause leg edema, even Pulmonary Edema...at least it did in my case.

Xpap can help a lot of the effects of apnea, but your doctor needs to know about your edema.
It may need to be addressed independently--but most definitely soon!
