I:E Ratio

Post by theoldman22 » Sun Jun 07, 2015 3:37 pm

What little information that I have been able to find says the I:E Ratio should be between 1:2and 1:3. The only time that I have been able to get 1:2 was when I used a CPAP mode (not comfortable). In general the summary page from last night’s session looks pretty good (to me), but the min I:E ratio is 1:1.43, the 95 percentile is 1:1.15, the max is 1.12.:1.
Anything to worry about? If so, what can I do?
FWIW: Machine is a ResMed S9 VPAP Auto; mask is an AirFit F10 FFM. I do have to tape my mouth. If I don’t, even though using a heated humidifier full bore my mouth gets so dry that my cheeks stick so tightly to my lower gums that it is difficult to get them separated.
In both VPAP and S modes, I have used max IP between 10 and 14, min EP between 8.0 and 11.0. In VPAP mode, I have used PS between 1.6 and 3.0. In S mode the difference in max IP and min EP has also been between 1.6 and 3.0.

I have no idea where you got your information, but neither of us comes anywhere close to the numbers you suggest .
I would suggest either ignoring your source or go back to the drawing board.

My IE ratio has been between 1.5:1 to 1:1.25. I have searched this forum and pubmed but havent found any info on what is a healthy Range. In general, I have felt better on days where I:E ratio is 1:1+ so when I is less than E.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

thanks for the link grayghost4. But it refers to target IE ratio for patients on 'mechanical ventilation'. I still can't find anything on the ratio for normal breathing and for cpap.

Maybe some users can chime in with their observed IE ratio on sleepyhead. That way, we can see if a pattern emerges.

did you ever think of using "GOOGLE"

https://www.google.com/search?q=I%3AE+r ... 8&oe=utf-8

the first link showing is :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse_ratio_ventilation

BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO READ THROUGH IT TO GET THE INFO YOU WANT

Ok I will Quote it ... so you will not have to read :

Normal I:E ratio is 1:2, 1:3, 1:
