Sleepyhead and Windows 10
I didn't see a discussion on this based on my simple search of this forum.
For many reasons I am hesitant to upgrade my OS to a new one due to compatibility problems with programs.
I love Sleepyhead and do not want to do without it. It's doubtful that SH has been run through the ringer on Windows 10.
Please advise. I probably need to get rid of the task bar notification for a free reserved upgrade to Win10.

I did a quick test on Win10 TV and it had no problems. Win10 for consumers is not being released until July 29th.
The GWX app created by a bogus Windows Update is annoying. The update is under false pretense since it doesn't actually fix anything just adds a way to spam you about Windows 10.
To get rid of the icon permanently uninstall KB3035583 which is responsible for these notifications. When you're offered the same again via Windows Update remember to hide it.

Re: Sleepyhead and Windows 10
Do yourself a favor and wait a year if you really want Windows 10. I got stuck with a laptop and Windows Vista when it was brand new and it was a PITA. After one or two service packs it was OK, but I know I don't need that headache again and you probably don't either.

Re: Sleepyhead and Windows 10
There is not a lot different from Win8.1 and Win10. It has a lot of "enhancements" but still looks pretty much similar. If you already have Win8.1, upgrading to Win10 won't be much of a difference and will fix some nagging issues in Win8.1.
This is nothing like going from WinXP which was very stable to Windows Vista.
The OP was asking about if Sleepyhead runs on Win10.... it does. Similar issues exist for importing data from your SDcard as with Win8

Thank you for your input. Just as I suspected. Windows has been becoming kindergarten interface over the past few years. I miss DOS. After I finish my work career, I'm going feral.

What issues are there with W8.1 with regard to downloading from the SD card? I have managed to avoid W8 so far, running several W7 machines.Krelvin wrote:There is not a lot different from Win8.1 and Win10. It has a lot of "enhancements" but still looks pretty much similar. Win8/8.1 adds system volume information on a drive which on a Resmed CPAP can cause issues.RobertS975 wrote:What issues are there with W8.1 with regard to downloading from the SD card? I have managed to avoid W8 so far, running several W7 machines.Krelvin wrote:...

Go to Windows Updates... Click on Installed Updates on the bottom left of the screen, wait for it to update... find the KB3035583 and uninstall it. Requires a reboot.StephenR wrote:So how to I : uninstall KB3035583??Krelvin wrote:To get rid of the icon permanently uninstall KB3035583 which is responsible for these notifications. After you reboot, go back to Windows Update, let it update, you will see KB3035583 again, right click on it and say Hide.

Re: Sleepyhead and Windows 10
A couple things to keep in mind.
1. Windows 10 will be free to upgrade from Win 8.1 and Win 7 for 1 year. So, waiting too long can cost you money.
2. The "Get Windows 10 App" can be turned off on the notification bar, rather than uninstalling it, if you're so inclined.
3. Before uninstalling the "Get Windows 10 App," or before hiding the update, make sure that you check if your PC has any compatibility issues. Most people think this app is only so Microsoft can spam us about the upgrade. While that's partially true, the app also checks your PC's hardware configuration and let's you know if there are any issues. For instance, my laptop's graphics card driver wouldn't support Win 10. Neither Windows Update nor Asus notified me of any updates to that driver. Had I not installed the GWX app and checked my PC, I could've been in a world of hurt when I upgrade next month. Instead, I was able to update that driver, and my laptop is now ready to go. After all that, I just hid the notification, and that was that. I never have to see it again until Windows 10 is ready to download.

but a year is a year... no point in loading spam on peoples computers without their knowledge under the guise of a Windows Update.digitalepiphany wrote:A couple things to keep in mind.

That doesn't really turn it off though. It is still running along with a mess of other unnecessary software.2. The "Get Windows 10 App" can be turned off on the notification bar, rather than uninstalling it, if you're so inclined.
You can't register for the free version if your current computer is not compatible.3. Before uninstalling the "Get Windows 10 App," or before hiding the update, make sure that you check if your PC has any compatibility issues.
Yes is was scummy. Most people think this app is only so Microsoft can spam us about the upgrade.
Not really, before you can update you have to do a compatibility check. So no, you would not have been able to update until your computer was compatible.Had I not installed the GWX app and checked my PC, I could've been in a world of hurt when I upgrade next month.

Re: Sleepyhead and Windows 10
That was in response to amenite's suggestion about waiting a year for service packs and such, not in response to Microsoft's rollout of the GWX app.Krelvin wrote:but a year is a year... no point in loading spam on peoples computers without their knowledge under the guise of a Windows Update.digitalepiphany wrote:A couple things to keep in mind.

I actually registered mine for the free upgrade before I found out about the compatibility check. So, yes, you can register for the free version even if your computer isn't 100% compatible.Krelvin wrote:You can't register for the free version if your current computer is not compatible.digitalepiphany wrote: 3. As far as uninstalling GWX vs. turning the notification off....obviously, it's better to not have it running in the background. I was just giving people an alternative option to uninstalling the app. Some people will want to use the compatibility check, and will want the reminder when it's ready for download. Hiding the notification gives them that. Like I said, it's just another option.

Re: Sleepyhead and Windows 10
I didn't fully explain this, but here goes... Asus's website sucks. I couldn't find the updated drivers for my graphics card on their site at all. I went to Intel's site and found them there. I downloaded them, but they wouldn't install properly. Long story short, it took me just shy of a week to find the new drivers for my graphics card. So, had I not looked into this ahead of time, and been pumped about upgrading to Windows 10, it wouldn't happen. It would get stuck at the compatibility screen, and it'd have to back out of the installation. So, while I technically wouldn't be in a world of hurt, I'd surely be pretty pissed.Krelvin wrote:Not really, before you can update you have to do a compatibility check.
