Resmed Water Resevoir Will Not Close Please help

Post by StaceyA » Sat Jun 06, 2015 8:03 am

I took my Resmed water resevoir apart for cleaning and it won't go back together. I had my son who is very mechanically inclined try to help me put it back together, with no success. I have done it many times before. All the parts align except for where it snaps together. I thought that perhaps the seal swelled when I cleaned it with hot water...I believe that it is the S9 series. Please help!

The yellow gasket thing has slipped. I had this happen fairly often. Just move the gasket (I think up) all the way and then try to close the snap things. The yellow gasket does slide up or down just a little and it is this sliding that causes the malalignment.

I do not have a yellow gasket. The rubber seal is firmly attached, and doesn't slide anywhere. I wish that I could post a pic.

This is one of the Resmed H5i humidifier weak design. Also, to raise the cover you need to use both hands instead of it being springy and open by itself after you press the latch. It was designed by lousy engineers. Another problem with the Flip Lid is that it needs to be centered on the lower tank to work properly.

Replacement or Backup Humidifer Flip Lid Seal

The ResMed H5i Humidifier Flip Lid Seal for the H5i Heated Humidifier is a sillicone gasket that effectively locks the flip lid and water chamber, which prevents water from leaking into the machine. Easy to maintain, the gasket will need to be replaced as soon as it becomes damaged or torn.

What color is the rubber seal or gasket on the chamber that you do have?
And exactly which chamber do you have?
The standard chamber has a yellow ring thing
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... amber.html
and the dishwasher chamber has a black ring thing
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... amber.html
It's the ring thing that is causing the problem and it will move slightly and cause the snaps not to close.

Thanks! You were right! It wasn't yellow, but it was the bottom part of the clip part. It had slipped. Thanks so much!

Thanks so much! I am very grateful for this site! It has saved me now on two occasions! It took me 120 days to get used to my CPAP, but now I am addicted to the point that I panic when I can't get it working correctly, and since the place where I bought it is closed on Saturdays, I was in a bind. The last time it happened, it was in the middle of the night and I found some kind person to help then, too! Thanks soooooo much!

When this first happened to me I just kept fiddling with things and then it would close but I didn't know what I did to fix it. Then one day it happened and instead of going into frustration mode I slowly started fiddling with things until I discovered that little movement of that little ring thing. Once you know exactly where the problem is you should be able to easily fix it the next time it happens.

That silly collar has slipped down on my tank, too.
Luckily the bullfrog figured it out in a snap.
Resmed's omission of some kind of label fails to consider our lack of mechanical prowess.

wrong again, avi, as usual, you've failed to understand the issue before climbing on your soapbox.

Sounds like the problem was the translucent square plastic ring/collar that goes on the outside of the metal base and has the flaps that snap the top on. i.e. the "ears" on 4 sides of this picture.

If this slides down a little, it makes it hard or impossible to close the top.

One trick is to run some warm water over the ring and get some of the water between the ring and the metal base. It will slide up and down more easily.

Yes, if you run warm water on the bottom of the container with the ring on it, the plastic ring expands more than the metal due to the heat, so the ring loosens up quite a bit, and you can move it around so that it allows the tank to close again. Found that out when I was washing the tank and the plastic ring came off easily in warm water *smile*.
