My curiosity was peaked by it's compact size.
I really would love to try that Heat moisture exchanger with my intellipap and my mask, since I use only passover hum. I can imagine it would end up being costly out of pocket plus there's no connector for my mask. I love my intellipap for daily use and travel (I have an oldie remstar for backup) ,it's quiet (26dB supposedly) vs 29-31dB for the transcend ,that's a deal breaker for me too, plus the price comparison.
I wanted to find out how effective is this HME system vs heat humidification but I've only drank a cup'o'coffee , so maybe if I drink another one....

Just opened the Transcend II and used it for the first time last night. I love the size and silence (it's very quiet), but it feels like a lot of pressure. I had the supplier double check the setting and it's correct. So I guess my old unit wasn't set high enough. Whatever. I don't use a humidifier and really like the size and simplicity of it. BTW, I still can't get over wearing it on my head? WHY?

I live in the mountains, totally "off grid" on solar power. My Transend has a multi night battery as well as it's own solar panel for recharging. I don't think any other CPAP machine has this.

This post is timely for me because I just received a Transcend Auto EZEX yesterday from CPAP.com. After three airplane trips this spring with my regular large CPAP machine I was pretty well done with lugging it around, and I petitioned by insurance company to pay for a travel machine for my business trips. This one seemed a great option.

I haven't used it yet, but inspected everything last night. I was thinking that the strap anchors might be good for attaching it to your arm on an overnight flight (e.g. overseas) if you need to sleep. I took two red eyes last week and was wondering how much I should actually be sleeping without any CPAP support at all, plus there is the issue of the thunderous snoring. But for god's sake, I would never wear the thing on my head and would never have even thought of that.

On a side note, does anyone have insight on transitioning between my straight CPAP (pressure 14) and the Transcend Auto? Can you move back and forth between a CPAP and APAP without any problem?

The head thing is funny, but the original design did include their proprietary nasal mask and HME that was designed with the machine strapped to your head with a pad.......that's why you still see the curved base plate, I don't know anybody that would bother to operate it that way these days especially considering that there are now universal HMEs available that can be worn with any mask, so no need now to use the Transcend mask.

As far as bouncing back and forth between your straight cpap and the Transcend Auto, it's not really a big problem. If I were you I would set up a fairly tight pressure range on the Transcend that encompasses your 14 cm cpap pressure.....for example 12 cm low side and 15 on the top side. The lower setting is the most important in any case and I wouldn't go too far below your 14 cm cpap pressure on the Lower Auto setting.

You'll probably like the Transcend, but I am sure you'll find it a bit noisier and maybe slightly different feeling on the breathing, so be sure and try it at home for a few nights before taking it on the road......the more you use it, the more you'll feel comfortable with it.

And you might look into the HME cartridges available from online cpap places like cpap.com.......they will give you some degree of humidity with your Transcend when traveling, otherwise you might get a pretty dry throat depending on the ambient humidity where ever you stay at night.

Engineers rule:

If it doesn't fit, force it.
if it still doesn't fit, get a bigger hammer.
and if it STILL doesn't fit.... change the specifications.

Thanks much, Tangled. I appreciate your advice on the settings for the APAP. After living with a pressure of 14 for four months now, anything under 10 seems like I can't breathe. Regarding the HME, I've ordered one to try out. I am used to a humidifier right now, and I'm hoping the HME will work for me. Seems like an easy and cheap solution, if its effective.

I think the HME helps somewhat, but obviously not as good as a real humidifier, I also keep some water handy so when I wake up for a bathroom break I can wet my whistle.

Hope it works out for you, just don't let us catch you wearing the Transcend on your head!

I just tried the new Transcend on a 21-day free trial. I never got to use it. It makes a horrible squealing noise with every change from inhale to exhale. There is definitely something wrong with the fan system. I recorded it, called customer service and played it back for them. They gave me an RMA for returning their defective machine, but I have to pay the return shipping. So much for their "Risk Free" trial.
I've been using Resmed for years. Those are solid machines. This one just looks, feels, and sounds junky. And by the time you add the hose adapter, it actually takes up more space on your nightstand than my regular Resmed S9. Don't waste your time or money on this gimmick.
