ResMed VPAP s9 Auto

Post by blueeyes » Wed May 20, 2015 2:02 pm

I am trying to set the pressure on my vpap machine. On my remstar one machine the pressure is 10. On the Vpap machine it has ipap pressure and epap pressure. Ipap pressure is 10 and epap is 5. Does this sound like a good setting on the VPAP machine for me? Thanks

Are you saying that you had a straight CPAP fixed pressure of 10 before? Were you using any exhale relief (flex) on your previous machine?

If you had a steady pressure of 10 before, then the EPAP setting of 5 may be too low. Let us know more about the previous machine and settings. Was there a prescription change or did you just acquire a new machine and want to get the settings close to the settings you had before?

no.

epap is what prevents events, ipap helps you inhale. (it's a lot more complicated than that, especially when dealing with lung problems, but for now, that oversimplification will suffice).

if you needed 10, then your epap should be 10, or close to it to start out with.

in auto mode, you set a epap range, and a ps, ps+epap= ipap.

are you setting a range, or going with 's' mode?

if you're doing a range, I'd suggest trying minepap=9, maxipap=14, ps=2 or some relatively low number, then see what your data looks like tomorrow.

I had a regular cpap remstar one it just says cpap pressure 10.0 cflex 3. It did not have ipap or epap that is why this is confusing to me. It is in the S mode. Thanks everyone

then I'd suggest epap 9, ipap 10, easybreath on.

Did you not know that you were buying a bilevel machine instead of a cpap? I think you will be able to find a comfortable settings with your new machine but you will have to monitor with software to see if your new settings are effective. I hope you have Sleepyhead. Palerider has given you a starting place which is similar to what you had. Let us know how you do.

no okeydokey I did not buy this resmed vpap auto. It was given to me by a friend. I have never had a bipap so that is why I am asking about the settings.
Thanks palerider I will try them settings.

PR helped me stumble through tweaking my settings, too. I got good info from others here as well, but I was blasting him with most of my nonsense. I think you will be pleased in short order. The S9 VPAP is very smooth.

Thanks palerider I will try them settings.

It will be more versatile than a cpap and I think you will like it. You can get a copy of the clinician manual here. http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
Scroll down to section three and follow instructions for them to email it to you.

you can also set it to be just like your other one by turning it to 'cpap' mode.

the settings I gave you would be sort of like your old cpap at 10, with flex 2, .....ish.

you don't want to make big changes. as you learn more about the vpap auto, you'll find out that it's a very capable, versatile machine.... but learn what the settings do before you change them, and get a manual for it from apneaboard.
