Lower Pressure Improves My AHI: Next Step?

Post by Zomby Woof » Mon May 18, 2015 10:08 am

It is day 34 of my CPAP journey.
I've made progress primarily because of the assistance of members here @cpaptalk
The experiences shared by each of you regarding mask selection, nasal pillows vs high pressure,
and mask "hacks" has greatly improved my comfort level and my Large Leak rate.

In particular, a few astute observations about contradicting my prescription
and reducing pressure led to cutting my AHI by 50% -
from a three week average of about 17.5AHI to less than 9AHI this past few days.

To continue improving my results - cutting my apneas in half AGAIN -
I'd appreciate your informed opinions of last night's SH report and any changes that I should consider:

Current: IP=18 EP=8 PS=4
Former: IP=24 EP=12 PS=8

MY PROGRESS wi MASK SELECTION:
WISP nasal mask > WISP + Pad-A-Cheek + Chinstrap > WISP + Pad-A-Cheek + mouth taped >
ESON full face mask > F10 full face mask > F10 + Blue Mesh Headgear >
Tap Pap > Tap Pap + mouth taped > Tap Pap + mouth taped + soft cervical collar >>>
TAP PAP wi soft cervical collar (CURRENT)

My best results were actually obtained with the Tap Pap + cervical collar + mouth taped = 7.04 AHI
with an LL rate below 10%.
It is fiddle-y and time-consuming to get the tape fitted around the Tap Pap oral appliance however,
and not particularly comfortable.
So I ditched the mouth tape and am trying just the cervical collar for now

Thanks for taking the time to consider this. Dennis

I'd say that focusing on your leaks at this point would be a priority. hopefully someone else with experience with your mask can offer suggestions.

Thanks for your response palerider.

Tomorrow I receive an AirFit P10 mask which will allow me to tape my mouth effectively.
Assuming that the P10 brings no new issues I expect the Large Leak problem will be history.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

the leaks are so bad, that it's either causing or masking other issues, once those are in check, then you can more effectively work on the rest of the stuff
