WIFI on some of our machines, Maybe :)

Post by Cowboy Casey » Fri Jun 27, 2014 9:18 am

I edited the subject, as this has been tried before... I am still trying and will let you all know if something comes of this....

So, The first thing I wanted was to get the information out of my machine without taking out the SD card.. So I ordered a Toshiba WIFI card and started down the path but have run into issues....

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GEBTFNM

http://www.toshiba.com/us/wifi-memory-cards

1. The SD card works just like any card out there..
2. I am able to connect it to my local area network WIFI router (setting that I used I will add to this later)
3. I am able to see the data from the SD card in the webpage it creats for the data..

That is where I have stopped and stuck at...

1. My machine is to far from my WIFI router to connect, Also, The WIFI in the card has very little power so it does not go very far, I would think no more than 20 feet... so I will need to set up a WIFI repeater (that I dont have yet) I am looking at the something like this http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA850R ... B00E98O7GC

2. I need to figure out how to get the data off the card as "data" not a webpage.. sleepyhead was able to get to the data but, because its a web format it would not recognise it as data ( I new this would happen but tried it any way)

Does any one else have 1 of these cards that have changed the config file loaded on it to access the card as data and not a webpage?

I am hoping to get this to work for everyone...

These cards are not designed for transferring anything but images and videos. I think this effort is doomed to failure.

that not entirely true... There are people using them to send printer data to them and print from the cards so I know that data can pass, but everything they have for the printers is to get data to the card ( upload) not download from the card... if data can go one way, it can go the other way..

ignore the party pooper

move your machine over closer to your wifi access point and see if you get a good enough signal to connect,

perhaps you can copy the files off into a directory on your 'puter and the point sleepyhead at that directory.

keep (most of us) informed!

If you look at the web page, and do "right click - save link as" on the individual files, do you get the file saved to your computer?

If so, you'd need to find a tool to download all the files and directories like that from a web page. There's probably a way to do that. wget will probably do it. You'd need to use the wget command to start the downloads to a directory and then point SH at that directory.

Confused...why is it too much trouble to put the card into your computer every few days. You seem to be spending a lot of energy/time on this project.

He is doing it for the same reason some people climb Mount Everest. To prove that he can.
When he proves that it can be done easily some of us will chose to do it so we don't forget to return our cards to our machine like I did last night. The first time my LCD showed ZERO AHI and the card was not in it.

sometimes, it's worth the extra effort to make a task easier in the future.

if he spends some time now, and gets it working, then he'll save time, not much, but a few minutes going back and forth, every time he wants to look at data from now on. it adds up...

plus the 'no forgetting to put the card back in the machine' thing is nice too.

I'm always forgetting to put the card back into my machine.
Then you may need to remember to lock and unlock the card.
You have to go into the bedroom, take the card into another room to get to the computer, copy it, take it back, etc.
Wear and tear on the card and card slot.
It would be really nice to be able to just download your data any time you're sitting at the computer. Or to automate the process and grab it every 7 days if you have an S9 machine that erases some of the data every 7 days.

Not major hurdles, for sure, but given modern technology, it seems we should be able to get the data wirelessly.

Agreed, Archangle. I'm just worried that if they get to the point of enabling all machines for Wifi that they will then be more able to lock patients out of the data.

I'll bet they're working on that already. Got to keep the peasants ignorant and powerless.

Each morning, when I take my card out of my machine I put a used discarded filter on the display window of my machine, so at night, when I am already in my bed, just about to turn on my machine, I see the filter which reminds me that I have not put my card in! Works for me!!!

Arcangle, why would someone lock or unlock the card?

I never touch it and I am wondering if I should be??

I believe he's referring to something else.

however, some people need to lock their cards before putting them in their computers, some OS's, like winblows 8.1 (?) likes to helpfully write things on the card for it's purposes, that resmed s9 machines DON'T LIKE... and will say that the card is corrupted, and want to reformat it when you pop it back in. locking the card before putting in the computer prevents winblows from messing with it.

My guess is that if they add WiFi, they're still going to keep the SD (or whichever) memory card as a backup. I also hear that machine settings can be changed using the memory card, so they'd lose that if they stopped putting the memory card slot on the back of the machine.

Anyways, while WIFi usually works, it can be flaky enough that I'd want a backup, myself. And has the side benefit that you can always take the card out and get the data. If they wanted to keep users out of the data, they'd only have to use encryption, not too hard these days. Since they haven't done that (yet *smile*), don't believe that's a primary consideration.

Ok, I have gotten alot further

I have the card working in my machine.. NICE
It is connected to my router
I can view all the folders and files and download the files (1 at a time)

I have tried Wget for windows, flashget.. I can get the webpage structure but I cant get the data files.. It is probably just a setting in wget but I am not sure which setting...

here is what the webpage looks like.

Does anyone know a different way to download files or some setting from wget??
