90% Pressure Question
90% Pressure Question
My APAP is set from 4-10. I have used it for 2 nights now. I go back in 2 weeks to the sleep doc for and needed adjustments. Both nights it said my 90% pressure was 10. Does that mean that my machine probably needs adjusting on the max end above 10? If it still reads 10 tonight and tomorrow, should I call the sleep place Monday about adjusting it up before my 2 weeks are up or wait?
Re: 90% Pressure Question
It just means that your pressure was at or below 10 for 90% of the night. I would not change anything right now....It is too early in your therapy.
Hope this helps!

What is your AHI? More importantly, how do you feel?9forus wrote:My APAP is set from 4-10. I have used it for 2 nights now. I go back in 2 weeks to the sleep doc for and needed adjustments. Re: 90% Pressure Question
My AHI listed on the machine is 1.3. I do feel better, no headaches and I actually didn't need a nap yesterday!
I am just confused. I guess I thought if the max pressure it will go to right now is 10 and I am having 90% pressure at 10, that maybe it needed to be upped since I am staying at the highest pressure setting. Sorry, this is very confusing! I wouldn't change it myself, but would call the center Monday. Should I not do that?

Re: 90% Pressure Question
What were you expecting from CPAP in addition to that? A pot of gold at the end of the hose?My AHI listed on the machine is 1.3. I do feel better, no headaches and I actually didn't need a nap yesterday!
What was your leak rate?
Re: 90% Pressure Question
Why so nasty?
Re: 90% Pressure Question
The 90% pressure level equal to 10 does NOT mean that your machine was at 10cm for 90% of the night.
The 90% of a data set is a statistical term. It is the number for which 90% of the data is AT or BELOW. So your 90% pressure = 10cm means that for 90% of the night your pressure was at or BELOW 10 cm.
Given your AHI of 1.3, there's no real evidence that your max pressure needs to be increased.
If you 'd like to get a better understanding of the statistical meaning of "90th percentile", you can go to my blog entry Average, Median, 95% numbers: A guide to those who don't remember their introductory stats

Thanks for making me feel like an idiot. I amOhHelpMe wrote:What were you expecting from CPAP in addition to that? A pot of gold at the end of the hose?My AHI listed on the machine is 1.3. I do feel better, no headaches and I actually didn't need a nap yesterday!

New to this and trying to understand it. You must have a sad, unfulfilling life to be so mean and sarcastic. I will pray for you. Sometimes you are better off not saying anything and I think that was one time you shouldn't have said anything. Are you always this charming to people trying to understand their therapy?
And FYI... My leak rate both nights has been 0%.

Please don't think OhHelpMe's post represents what this board is about as it definitely does not. Sorry you had to experience that as you were asking very good questions.
It sounds like you are doing great.

It is definitely confusing as a newcomer. Just keep asking all the questions you need to and this board will help you out.9forus wrote:Thank you. Re: 90% Pressure Question
PS - you don't need to 'get it' all in a week... it evolves over years, like anything else, but if you have the basics you need and feel ok, that's what counts!
Re: 90% Pressure Question
Did you have a titration? (to determine a pressure)9forus wrote:My APAP is set from 4-10. I have used it for 2 nights now. I go back in 2 weeks to the sleep doc for and needed adjustments. Did you have a prescribed pressure?
Is there some reason they limited your maximum pressure at 10 cm.?
You need to check your leak data.
To me, it sounds like you need to raise the minimum at 10 and raise the maximum pressure to maybe 15 for the time being to see what that shows.
You may need to adjust your mask to accommodate the higher pressures.
What kind of arrangement do you have with the folks who gave you the machine?
Is it a loaner or is it "yours"?
Depending on that criteria may determine what latitude you have to adjust your therapy settings.

No prescribed pressure, just from 4-10. I guess that is their first guess??
The machine will be mine after 13 months. It was brand new in box when I got it.
I go back to the sleep center for a follow up with my machine week after next. I bought it through them. (My choice, they were going to give me my RX to take elsewhere but they had everything I needed there. I live rural and the town is about an hour away.).
My leak data for both nights say 0%. I haven't felt any leaks either. I am getting a good fit with the Quattro Mirage, they measured me for fit there. It is pretty comfortable, just a little too heavy. I guess I will get used to it.
