Unless they happen to be sensitive to pressure and it causes them centrals - nothing.KsUp wrote:How would it affect someone without sleep apnea?

I don't have a medical degree, but I can't imagine why air would/could harm someone. Maybe at a very high pressure, but it's still only air.
Why would someone without sleep apnea want to use a machine anyway?

Ah! But there are much easier and less expensive ways to "control" snoring.

I don't know which level of pressure could be dangerous or detrimental for the lungs but my pulmonologist told me once time ago he wanted me to have my maximum pressure set at 95% + 3 cmH2O because pressure was no good for lungs. He didn't explain and I didn't ask why.

Re: What would cpaptherapy do to someone without sleep apnea
Seems I remember someone on here long ago mentioning using CPAP for snoring only. I would think anyone using it for any non-apnea purpose could use a very low pressure and avoid the problems that might come with higher pressure use. I could see someone with severe allergies sleeping with a machine for the filtered air.

Re: What would cpaptherapy do to someone without sleep apnea
I could be wrong but my pressure is 8-15 and I am 18 years old could this mess my lungs up down the road? And I haven't used my cpap for 2 days due to an unknown chemical heavy taste in my theoat and I don't feel as tired for some reason.the cpap memory card would show central apneas on there wouldn't it? It doesn't show any but but I just didnt know if it would be innaccurate or something?
Thanks
Thanks

You are young but you can still check your data and keep track of your therapy. If you didn't need this you wouldn't have been prescribed this machine in the first place. You are very fortunate to be able to get help with your apnea while you are young. You are not the youngest one that gets tips on cpap use here. Really the other one I am thinking of is through her Mother but this is something you can keep track of yourself. Download the software and then you can see what problems you might be having. You will get plenty of help here.

Ksup, the plastic smell is normal with a new mask and hose. It will go away in a few days. Next time you get new supplies, let them air out for a few days before you use them.
The plastic smell won't harm you anywhere near as much as sleeping without your machine. NEVER sleep without your machine. NEVER!!!
You are still getting used to your machine so your sleep is disrupted. That's why you seem to have slept better without it, if you don't count the periods you weren't breathing at all. you need time to adjust to the machine, and it may take some time. But you'll never get used to it if you don't use it.
You are an adult now, so act like one. Take responsibility for your own health and use your machine.
And no, it will not mess up your lungs to use the machine, but it will mess up your life if you don't.

Everybody has sleep apnea.

It may greatly improve his or her sleep quality, whether or not he or she has met the criteria needed for a medical diagnosis of a sleep problem.
One day, in a civilized world, every human will have the opportunity to try PAP therapy just to see if it improves his or her sleep. But for now, that opportunity is mostly only open to people in developed nations who are vocal about sleep issues and who meet arbitrary medical definitions set by insurance companies.

Best way to achieve that opportunity:
develop your nations and be vocal about sleep issues and meet medical definitions set by insurance companies.

Cpap pressure is not enough to inflate a balloon.
It is not enough to harm normal lungs.
