3 nights, 100%

Post by pootsie » Mon May 27, 2013 12:16 pm

I've had the hose in my nose for three nights now, 100% compliant. The results are quite pleasing.

It sure is taking some adjusting, but I am determined to be an active part of my own good health. That means using an accepting attitude.

While I do understand that not everyone has it as easy, I think that my having lived with a temporary colostomy a few years ago makes the face-hugger seem like a lot less of an inconvenience or annoyance. Pooping in a bag glued to your belly--that will make you grateful for normal bodily functions!

Good work! I am at the same place now that we have all the bugs worked out. Over 8 hours each night, AHI 0.9, 1.3, 1.0. Last night I did wake up 3 times, remembering dreams from which I was awakened. The no headache, no muscle soreness and not feeling like I will die without an afternoon nap are wonderful.

I believe past experience does make it easier...had to have a tube down my nose for almost a week several years ago and the nasal pillows are much more comfortable than that

I also have been on cpap for 3 nights now. I think I'll be able to live with it just fine. I do have trouble with nasal congestion (and one nostril that just doesn't work at all), but cpap has actually been helping quite a bit and I've been doing other things to alleviate that. What I've noticed:

* I'm using sleepyhead to check out my stats. My pressure used to be high, but it's now below the threshold of the graph, which is annoying.
* AHI is in the 2-3 range.
* I still have a very unregular breathing pattern at times. I wonder if its due to dreaming. Still lots of events.
* I'm still tired in the morning and don't want to get up, but I'm not so tired that I'm able to just brick back out. I think maybe habit is doing this more than anything else, and a long standing sleep debt.
* I actually feel borderline high a lot of the time...quite manic compared to what I'm used to. I feel like I could actually go out and do stuff. My normal routine of watching TV all weekend is actually boring the hell out of me...and I went out a couple times even.
* My GF says I'm in a better mood.
* I relax more.
* I'm sore as all getout in the neck and lower back.
* I'm not gagging on my own mucus in the morning and what I still cough up isn't chunks of brown tapioca.

All in all I get the feeling that this is going to be life improving. I was worried that I'd not be able to stand the machine, but it's actually not so bad and may even have increased my comfort level while sleeping.

I wish I could mess with the starting pressure on the ramp. The doctor apparently set it to max out at 5 or maybe that's the machine. Since I'm still in "trial" period I don't want to go into the provider menu myself but eventually I may. I'm going to call them tomorrow.

Fantastic! You're keeping me motivated to get to the good stuff. Perhaps you're right about the context of having to sleep with an air hose as opposed to the intrusiveness ofa colostomy bag. I'd take the hose anyday.

Make it 4 nights

So far, so good, but I really need my chin strap. My wife poked me in the middle of the night to close my mouth, since I sounded like a gas leak.
