Foggy head
Been on the CPAP for roughly 2 1/2 weeks now and some days will wake up with a foggy head. All numbers are normal on the machine and it's working fine. Blood pressure is normal. Sometimes the foggyness will just last in the morning and sometimes it will last all day. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks for your help!!

Re: Foggy head
You could be feeling the effect of not having your brain pumped full of stress hormones.
Adrenaline made me feel wide awake when I woke up (untreated), but my heart was hammering!
Within a few days of starting treatment, I felt kind of "dull" on awakening, compared to the "rush"
of barely surviving the night. It is a bit like withdrawal from a stimulant--you miss it when it's first gone,
but after a while, you feel better in so many different ways.

Re: Foggy head
I started about three weeks ago and have had some of those foggy days. Those were usually the mornings after fighting with mask leaks all night though.

I'm very new, having only been on cpap for 2 weeks. I've had a few days where I thought I had more energy all day and times when I remembered a word I wanted to use in conversation when I couldn't before. I was ecstatic as I was constantly forgetting what word I forgot. I was told when starting that some don't notice much of a chance for few months.

Re: Foggy head
three points I would make.
1. Have a look at what medication you take before going to bed.
2. Make sure the straps are not too tight, especially the one that goes around the top of your head.
3. how old is the mask cushion. Over 3 months ,change it.

Re: Foggy head
Besides sleep medications that could do it. Also, the body adjustment to the CPAP which takes time. I would give it a couple of months. On top of it, studies have shown that close to 20% of CPAP users have RESes (Residual Excessive Sleepiness) during the daytime. The causes: Depression, Diabetes (type 2), Heart Problems, Restless Legs, and a few more.

Re: Foggy head
It takes a while for that foggy brain thing to go away. If you're just 2 1/2 weeks into this, don't expect your fogginess to go away that quickly. Mine took a few months, and it wasn't sudden, it happened gradually. AND I noticed that there was a direct correlation with my numbers.. the better they were, the less fogginess. You mention that "all numbers are normal on the machine". I'm wondering, have you downloaded software so you can look at your detailed stats and graphs on your computer, or are you just reading what the numbers say on the screen of your machine? What are your numbers?billgamble wrote:Been on the CPAP for roughly 2 1/2 weeks now and some days will wake up with a foggy head. All numbers are normal on the machine and it's working fine. Re: Foggy head
I have been on Cpap for 16 days and have used an average of 7.5 hours nightly with only one night of AHI of over 5. The firs few nights I awakened at sunrise with a burst of energy that continued all day. That initial effect has since worn off. I now have more energy and less fog, however, not as good as the first few days. I hope that I will return to the initial results as it was really nice to feel good again.
My wife gets her Resmed S9 Autoset tomorrow and we have both learned what to expect. With the help of this forum, I help educate my primary care doctor and his nurse called me on Friday and asked how I wanted the script written and which DME she should send it to.
As we continue to learn and adapt, I know our future will be brighter.
Thanks to all and hang in there to all newbies, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is not a train, it is a better life.

Re: Foggy head
Numbers are:
Ave. useage per night 7.5hrs
Ave. pressure 9.8
Ave. AHI 1.2
Ave. leaks 20 l/hr
What kind of software can I download to take a look at all of the info? It would have to be Mac compatible.
Thanks for everyone's help!!
