OT: Sugar and lies

Post by BlackSpinner » Sat Mar 09, 2013 10:53 am

Did you really believe all those studies that said sugar was not a problem?

sugar lies
"So the first document I saw was a confidential Sugar Association memo talking about their PR strategies in the 70s."

What Couzens found was something food industry critics have been seeking for years — documents suggesting that the sugar industry used Big Tobacco tactics to deflect growing concern over the health effects of sugar.

"So I had lists of their board reports, their financial statements, I had names of their scientific consultants, I had a list of research projects they funded, and I had these memos where they were describing how their PR men should handle conflict of interest questions from the press," she said.

When you get paid what they do, you have no trouble lying for a living. Sick.

There is also a government complicity in sugar pricing in the US. I have read, for example, that at one point the world sugar price was 3 cents per pound, but American price was 21 cents per pound due to government subsidies.

If sugar were less profitable to farm and sell, perhaps we'd use less of it?

Everyone lies about something. People selling stuff tend to misrepresent their products. Look at how packaging has changed -- now packages that contain less product advertised as "new, improved..."

PR is one thing, funding research and falsifying the reports or slanting the results is a whole other ball game.

Everything in moderation. I mostly eat fresh vegetables, steamed rolled oats, beef/fish/pork without coatings, some toast with real butter, no one forces me to eat sugar, and when I've been a good boy, I have a big ass caramel roll ! (nom nom nom burp) LOL

Recently saw an interview with Michael Moss, author of Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us . It's on my "To Read" list. I don't know if it addresses the shifty research issue but looks pretty interesting.

First Epistle to Timothy in the New Testament (1 Timothy 6:10) starts "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil". Apologies to Pink Floyd.

The sugar business has been since the beginning a dirty one and a killer one.

At the very beginning it was no scrupulousness about how many slaves died producing that white 'sh*t'.

Today there is less scrupulousness still about how many buyers die or destroy their health eating that addictive SHIT.

Animals, 1977 - Sheep (Waters) 10:19

"Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling I fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told.
Get out of the road if you want to grow old."

Where's SoWell when we need him? After all, the free market eventually moves to the point of providing the best product for the best price for the buying public, and if any company does bad to the buying public it eventually gets driven out of business! Yeah, right!

I'm still trying to figure out what the issue is here. If someone told me to eat something that I knew, and is commonly known, in excess, was not good for me, and I eat it, I'm not a victim, I'm an idiot. So, the real question is, how many "victims" that blame others for their self-abuses are merely idiots?

(how's THAT for a "petting the cat backwards" reply? LOL)
