cpaptalk.com buglets: pm- new messages & MySQL server errors

Post by lazer » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:21 am

I've started to notice just recently (maybe a few weeks) that when I get a new PM in my box here that this part up at the top left of the forum:

Code: Select all

User Control Panel (0 new messages) • View your posts
No longer shows a new message in my box. It just stays at the (0 new messages)

The only way I know to go check my box is via the email alert I receive.

Anyone else experiencing this?

No, I haven't noticed that happening. With your PMs this morning I am getting the little pop up box alerting me and the user control thing tells me I have a new message.

I have been having all sorts of other issues though...timing out to the point that I just want to scream. Getting this error message below multiple times a day. A moment ago I got into the page script stuff where all the code stuff is. Lots of connection issues and I go immediately to another website and it is fine. If I can read three threads without a problem I count myself lucky.
Been going on for a couple of weeks now. Didn't know if it was my computer or more problems with the forum infrastructure. Since no one else had mentioned anything I thought probably just my computer. Though I have no idea what it might be. Maybe the FireFox update....I guess I could try IE but I hate it and I don't have a single item bookmarked in it.

Yep, Been getting that "MySQL... code" error multiple times myself. I think it has to do with the servers timing out.

Funny thing, just after I posted the original concern about the "no PM notification" up top, Ironically it showed the (1) new message upon the last one you sent me.

Aliens?

It must be. Sometimes they visit me. Sometimes they visit you and sometimes they must be visiting the forum servers.

Thanks for letting me know it wasn't just me. It is extremely frustrating because it wastes a lot of my time waiting for things to get straightened out. It gets real annoying to have to click on "resend data" 10 times before a single post will go through and I sure don't want to have to type things all over again and saving every response to notebook "just in case" is a PITA.

I was doing something on the web the other day at a different website (I was playing games ) and I went all day without losing my connection or timing out.
I come here and I can't go 5 minutes without a time out or connection issue. I get really annoyed really fast.

Yeah, I've also been getting the MySQL message ... Sometimes it takes a few try's to get back in...

Yes - the MYSQL connection issue has been hitting me too. It take a few reloads sometimes before it works again.

Okay! Who jinxed the database? I just got the server-error message!

With a database as large and as heavily used as the one here at CPAPtalk, it's no surpise that there are some hiccups. The database probably needs some purging, and the server probably also needs an upgrade. Those things take time, money, and expertise. Also, PHPbb is an older message-board system. I remember using it to create a message board about 10 years ago.

Ditto

I've been getting this error ever since they began fixing things. It seems to be just momentary but annoying none the less.

obtw : what is wrong with MY SQL?

i get the sql errors too. the slow response errors could be in the path from your computer to server. we go thru many switches and lines from home to the server & all it takes is one slow switch to screw it up. other websites may work fine because you're probably using other switches and lines to get to another area. neotrace is very interesting. going from mobile alabama to a website in a houston server i've seen it route me to miami, baltimore, dallas, then houston. next time it will go mobile to dallas then houston. alot goes on behind the scenes clicking a website.

I'm glad it's just not me! I thought it was my old computer acting up so I didn't say anything. I get lots of "My SQLs" and I also notice it takes forever sometimes to get to the site while the images are loading (Waiting for cpaptalk,"35 items remaining"). Has anyone contacted Carolyn?

I started a couple of times to send her a note but didn't. I also thought it was me.
I bet that they know about it...especially now with this thread. If no one stops by today to let us know that they know about things then maybe someone could send her a note tomorrow with a link to this thread.

I get different error messages. Not just the one I posted which happened right when I was trying to open this thread so I had it right in front of me and got it copied. I will try to get copies of them as they pop up and stick them here in this thread. Probably would be a good idea for the others to do the same if they see a message that hasn't been posted. The error messages may help the forum gurus sort out the path of the errors.
