How do you feel when you fall asleep without CPAP?

Post by TimSilver445 » Sat Jul 07, 2012 2:49 am

Hi,

I just wanted to know how other people feel when they fall asleep without their CPAP. I have an S8 set at 15 and I need to use it constantly at night. This morning I woke up refreshed from my CPAP then took the mask off, then fell asleep without it for 2 hours. I woke up and have had vertigo all day and have felt very spaced out and 'weird'.

What do you experience if you sleep without CPAP?

Miserable. Simply miserable. I've only done it once since I started, and even that was just a quick nap on the couch. But I woke up groggy, had a headache, and was frankly scared to think that was how I felt every morning when I woke up before hooking up to the hose.

I have used my machine every night except for a few power outages. The next day I feel horrible, headaches, sluggish, can't think straight, tire easily -- I think you get the picture. The same feelings I had precpap and know that cpap is why I feel so much better now.

During the recent storms in Ohio, I did not have power for two nights before I got my generator. Those two nights were horrible, hardly slept, felt like crap the next day. I will NEVER go without CPAP again.

I haven't slept without CPAP since I was diagnosed. However, I have napped once or twice without it. Boy, what a mistake. Each time I felt as though a truck ran over me. I now hose up every time I sleep. I even keep a small unit at my office, in case I nap there.

Same here. I haven't slept without CPAP since I was first diagnosed, and I wouldn't want to. I only started CPAP about 6 weeks ago, so the memory of how poorly I used to feel *every morning* is still very fresh in my mind.

I tried sleeping without cpap once for a very short nap recently and I felt like I was not getting enough air with regular breathing. I had an oximeter on and it showed O2 levels of 92-90%. Later that night, I tested my O2 levles with the cpap on with regular breaths and the oximeter showed 98%.

Anyone experience this where the extra air helps you feel better when lying down without sleeping?

Gail

Wow, you were dead and came back to life...

That is a great example of what we are all trying to avoid.

You know what the sick part is? Before Cpap, I would wake up from that thinking I was spacey and groggy because I was sleeping good!

I fell asleep the other night without it. I woke up later, and put it on, but missed the first 4-5 hours.

I felt okay the next day, but my blood pressure, which had been normal for 2 weeks straight, was right back to 161/100. And that is while taking 3 medications.

Xpap is definitely helping my blood pressure.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

Srsly.... I can't use language to express how I feel w/o cpap on the forum.....

I never sleep or nap w/o cpap, because I feel so awful when I get up. The days prior to cpap were truly the bad old days.

Friday July 6 was my first night without my machine in over 3 years since I started therapy.
Some dumb a@@ forgot to check her travel machine bag for the long hose...wasn't missed until bedtime.
It was a rough, rough night. Got maybe 4 hours of very fragmented sleep in 4 ... one hour long segments broken up by having to get up to pee every hour and woke with massive killer headache. My butt was sure dragging all day yesterday. Found someone to sell me a hose yesterday morning and slept like a baby last night.

Gee, I don't know what Y'all are muttering about. Falling ASLEEP is a piece of cake, like falling off a cliff. It's the sudden stop at the end of the 'nap' that is earth shattering! Then there was the rigor mortis episode that only happened once after a startling wake-up from a no-PAP nap.
Love my SleepWeaver and it's healthful effects.
