CPAP has stopped my Apneas.. I cant sleep.. *Updated* YES

Post by traveling Utz » Fri Jun 08, 2012 10:42 am

I have been reading here..

I asked for a Quattro FX, because with my allergy's I at times breathe through my mouth..

I have tried for the last week to use the mask and fall asleep and it is not working..

I have tried herbal sleep meds to help.. Plenty tired, but cant sleep with the mask on.

I have even just tried with the mask on, no hose.. I did fall asleep, but woke up an hour later and the mask was off and I do not even remember taking it off.

This is so frustrating, because I know it will help me..

When I did the sleep study, it was a rough night, and I finally fell asleep but I think it was more exhaustion. They tried pillows at the titration, but I couldn't exhale, so went to a mask..

Do I keep trying with this mask?

Utz, I don't see where you say what is the issue- is it leaking, unfortable, or what? You might update your post to include what the issue is, and add QUATTRO FX to the title to catch eyes of fellow Quatro wearers.

You might check this out: viewtopic/t71291/Side-sleeping-with-Quattro-FX.html and see if there's something that helps.

Thank you i will check it out..

I am assuming it is uncomfortable.. Or new to me..

I am not feeling any leaks when I did have the air on..

The last 3 nights, I went with just the mask.. But still could not fall asleep..

If you're not having leaks or particular discomfort, just be aware that it takes time to get used to sleeping with a chunk of plastic strapped to your face, ANY chunk of plastic. BUT, you are doing yourself NO good by not using the machine. There's no point in sleeping in the mask only (to me that would be uncomfortable, hot and not enough air flow).

Spend some time during the day doing something quiet (reading, watching t.v., or listening to music) with the mask AND machine on. The idea is to get comfortable and relaxed with it. Then try it at night, MACHINE ON.

If you persist in having trouble sleeping, there's some good information on Roby Sue's blog--search for her by clicking on "Members" above.

Update..

I am still unable to fall asleep with it on..

I have dozed, so that is a plus..

It is frustrating, I know it will help me, but I cannot fall asleep..

The mask isn't leaking, its just the feeling on my face..

Maybe you can try some kind of mental blocking?

Try to think about some very pleasant activity (I dream about ... well, nevermind ) and get the mask and breathing totally out of your mind.

If you really can't get over the hurdle getting used to the mask and machine, a call to your doctor for some meds to help you sleep could be in order. At least until you get used to the mask.

Just my thoughts...

Maybe a small dose of clonazepam (klonopin) an hour before bed?

.25 mg (cut .5 mg tab in half)

Have you tried a mask liner?
Remzzz's or Pad a Cheek can give you the feeling of cloth instead of plastic on your face.
You can even cut a gasket out of an old t-shirt or a soft, dry, baby wipe.

Look through your memory for a very relaxing day - for many people that is a day at the beach.
Recapture that memory. 1) see the scene again, focus on the details you remember 2) smell the scene 3) hear the scene 4) feel the scene. Go for full sensory experience - smell and feel the suntan lotion, the sand. feel the cold drink, the sun on your skin. Experience the drowsiness. Repeat as needed.
If you wake up repeat it.

Since you have allergies anyway, perhaps a benadryl or two at night might help? At least for a few nights until you are more used to the mask.

Thank you everyone..

I have ordered a Pad A cheek.. Even emailed to get a status on the order..

I tried a unisom, but was so drowsy for the whole next day..

I did call the Dr, and he was the one to suggest wearing the mask without the air.. But as was mentioned here.. I got very hot..

I have an appointment with him on Monday, I am going to ask about a sleep aid to let me adjust to actually falling asleep with it..

Thanks for the suggestions, this site has been very helpful..
