Mirage Liberty Squeaking Swivel Joint

Post by retrodave15 » Sat Mar 24, 2012 7:58 am

Recently I switched to the Mirage Liberty Hybrid mask; I really like this mask but I am having one issue / complaint about this mask. The swivel joint at the mask where the hose connects, squeaks every time I move or move the hose. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an easy fix?

Dave,

I don't have the same mask, but I know exactly what you are talking about. My mask (PR EasyLife Nasal) has a swivel elbow and it sometimes squeaks, especially (it seems) when we are having lower humidity. I have not solved this yet, but I am going to try putting a little natural moisturizer/lubricant in that area and see what happens. I know we don't want anything that can damage or degrade the mask parts so I was thinking of getting Lanolish or something like that to try. I do have a tube of CPAP Moisture Therapy Cream - https://www.cpap.com/productpage/CPAP-M ... oEzIt.html which has natural products in it so I might try a little of that first. If you find something that works let me know as I don't like when I am semi-awake and roll over and hear 'that squeak'

John

Guys
Just a dab of olive or similar oil around the offending tube connection will fix the problem.
Cheers

I was going to suggest the smallest dab of baby powder or something but this makes more sense. Glad mine isn't doing that or it'd drive me nuts.

Had this same problem with my new Quattro a few weeks ago. First thing that popped into my mind, WD40... ... No, don't think so.
Sounds like nanwilson has the cure. Luckily mine just went away by itself after the first week.

Ok Kody, You found the only use that WD-40 will not work for

I will try Nan's suggestion, but I hope I don't dream of delicious Italian food all night. I don't want to get fatter while I sleep

With the Quattro you just pull off the swivil, clean it, and put it back. It's usually just dirty. It is sometimes hard to remove, but if you pull, it will come out. If you look at the instructions than came with your mask it will show it as a removable part.

My Mirage Activa mask sometimes squeaks at the swivel joint. It comes and goes but hasn't been enough of a problem to find a solution yet.

Something relatively inert, plumbers silicone grease. It is used to lubricate plumbing fittings, "O" rings etc. Put a thin coat on and wipe off the excess. Things get realy slippery.

Food grade silicon spray but mine stopped making noise on its own after a month or so.

Thanks for the information I actually had some food safe silicone grease and it took care of the issue.

I had the same problem with a different mask and I used a very small amount of canola oil on it. No smell and worked great.

Where did you put the oil or silicon? The swivel connection on my Quatro FX doesn't come apart. Also, what would I ask for when shopping for the silicone? Thanks.

All you need is food grade oil, ie.. olive oil, canola oil. Just put a dab around the offending joint and then spin the swivel until it stops squeeking. Remove any excess oil from the part with a kleenex or cloth. I have only had to do this once with my quattro and its been in use off and on for two years.
