NEW SleepWeaver Advance soft nasal mask!

Post by Emilia » Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:13 am

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I just noticed the news release several minutes ago, and emailed Circadience to ask which one I have. I just received a new one 2 weeks ago from a supplier. Unfortunatley, I've had a virus and haven't noticed a huge difference, other than the updated headgear and packaging. So I'll take notice about the seal once my breathing is more normal.
The changed headgear I received from Circadience in Decemer was an improvement over the original, by a good bit.

Am hoping the new design will help with my leak issues. My DME is ordering it so I'll have it as soon as I'm up for a new mask in April. Love, Love, Love this mask, just working on taming a couple of leak areas.

Cheers,
xena

How bad are the leaks you are getting? Above the Resscan red line? I need to get a full face for those congested times but I'm just not convinced yet...

Has anyone gotten one through Apria or have you bought it outright?

To each their own.

I'm not sure I'd label this as "new and improved" -- new YES, improved - Not necessarily!

From my experience I'm having MORE difficulties with the "new and improved" mask.
Still able to use it but am not getting as good a seal with the new as I did with the old. Still acceptable and still working with it.
As for the headgear, the narrower straps on the new and improved headgear tend to mark my face more than the older ones did (I think in part because I have to tighten them up more to hold the leaks down).
The new one doesn't stretch out near as badly as the old one did but I used to just keep adding new velcro tabs to the old when it stretched.
Right now I'm switching back and forth between the new and old trying to get everything adjusted and working the as near to the same as I can.
AHI numbers staying steady -- but leaks are higher with the new than with the old. I'm fairly confident I can get things adjusted back to where they work but I am a bit concerned about the face marking from the thinner straps. I think what I'm seeing is that the straps are a bit tighter and there's not near as much give to them so I have some marking.

As I said YMMV -- I was having really good luck with the old one, the new one certainly still works for me -- just not quite as good. Maybe it'll turn out opposite for you.

I have 2 of the new ones. I bought one right at the end of the year to use up my FSA and its still in the package as a reserve. The last replacement mask I got from my DME I got very early this year and it also is the new one and that's the one I'm working with.

Tip10,

I am guessing you received the mask in updated packaging, however I do not think you have a mask with the most recent seal change. Circadiance has made several changes to the mask over the past 6 months.

The first change was the headgear update.
They then updated the packaging to the box with better customer instructions.
The next change was the exhalation ports.
They then changed the seal material from light gray to black.
The final change was to recontour the sea.

The final "new and improved" with the seal updated just started shipping today. Over the last 6 months they changed their packaging a few times. So even though you received a mask that said "New and Improved," although it was still a newer and improved version over the previous, it might not have contained all of the changes.

To see if your mask has the updated seal: Look at the SleepWeaver's improved Zzzephyr Seal by holding the mask with the elbow connection facing away from you. Locate the seam in the Zzzephyr Seal fabric. An earlier version of the Zzzephyr Seal has the seam on the lower right corner. The Improved Zzzephyr Seal has the seam on the lower left corner.

Hope this helps.

- Carolyn

My leaks are between zero, and hover at times around the 24l/m mark, but this is a big improvement from when I first started with SleepWeaver - leaks were really high. However my AHI never got as high as 1.0, so that's a good thing!

Thanks Carolyn,
Okay from memory (and we all know how that goes with sleep issues) It looks like the mask I am using is probably not the "N&I" although it is different than my older ones.
It has the new headgear, it has a shorter string at the top, its contour seems to be a bit different but I cannot remember which side the seal is on (will look tonight) and the seal is definitely gray. I noticed the exhalation port changes quite a while ago and all of my masks except the very first one I got use the same exhalation port config.

As for packaging, one of the "new" came in a box, the other in the old bag.

So, I agree -- sounds like what I have is somewhere in the middle of all the changes -- lovely -- and they wonder why masks drive us crazy.

I should be coming up on schedule for a DME replacement in a few weeks -- wonder what they'll have if I request a new one. They were the ones that sent the Boxed one last time.

LizIsTired,

A lot of folks are wishing for it, but SleepWeaver isn't a FFM yet. I imagine there's some huge challenges to getting a seal all the way around the mouth, even if it would stay still.

Carolyn, thanks for the update.. seems I probably have everything but maybe the new seal.. drats!. But I still find SW a better choice than a FFM or the Comfortlite2 I use as nap mask. earl

Well, that will be my next order on masks, just wish I didn't have to wait another 3 months! My bella straps are coming this month to try and definitely want to try this N &I version of SW. I love that mask and everything about it, other than the higher leak line. Thanks for the post!!
