cpap dripped water into my throat

Post by tovayeah » Mon Dec 05, 2011 9:34 pm

I couldn't get used to my cpap machine and stopped trying, but I want to give it another shot. One problem I had was, without the steam it was too dry, but with the steam, it condensed and dripped water into my throat and I woke up drowning! Anyone ever heard of that? The lady at Apria tried to tell me that's normal, and wouldn't give me a different setup. Any experience with this type of situation?

Hi - It's called 'rainout' and is very common - try either turning down the setting of your humidifier to a lower number, or make sure your machine's at a lower level than your head - water can't drip uphill..

Keep the humidifier below the level of your head. Keep the temperature setting low enough to prevent all but a small amount of condensation in the tube or use a heated hose.
if you can't get used to CPAP, then BiPAP may work much better.
